    Dead arm syndrome
Starting pitchers sometimes suffer from dead arm syndrome after the all star break, usually because of being worked too much before the all star break.

Is there a way to tell if a starting pitcher is suffering from this malady? Or beginning to suffer from it?

Here are some guesses I have as to clues:

    1. Pitch count per start trends up while innings pitched trends down. In other words, the pitcher is throwing more pitches to get fewer batters out.

    2. Number of batters faced before leaving the game trends down.

    3. ERA per inning begins trending up for the later innings. I'm not sure if this stat is available, but it is easily calculated.

    4. Opposing hitters' BA, OBP, slugging percentage begin trending up. Or, WHIP begins trending up.
