Team Dynamics

I thought there was value in the Jays as home dogs last night as well. I played them 5 inn and 9 inn for equiv money looking to at least pick up the change on a split. Got lucky with the 4 spot bottom 5 and came away with something.

Boston is another story. Their lineup is truly decimated and I'd be very careful there going forward. It's amazing they're hanging as well as they have the last 2 wks. Now Youkilis is dinged as well. He'll probably try to play vs Price, but if he's out - their lineup is totally neutered. Without him, you just pitch around Ortiz. That club has to be dragging psychologically, esp after the Bucholz injury.

Tonight I like Detroit to cover the run line vs Balt and Cook and the Rocks over Garcia/Cards. Both home clubs are coming off dramatic late inning comeback wins. They'll be sky high and very tough to beat today. Plus Cook, like Derek Lowe, keeps you on the ground and in the ballpark.

Also like Fister/Seattle over Davies/KC for 5 and Josh Johnson for 5 in a major mound mismatch over Kuroda.

It is a great morning when BeatingBaseball comes into the thread. Great dynamics read. I have selected the Pirates as the contrarian play. I would of expected Moehler to be more chalky with the 9+ ERA with the Pitt pitcher. I loaded up more than usual.

A few of you have probaby noticed that I have not posted in a couple of days. It is with regret, that I let you all know that my father was just diagnosed with an incurable cancer, multiple myeloma, that involves my full attention. As in past years, my thread would usually end around the beginning to mid August. I am still scheduled to attend the Bash, as long as everthing with my Dad is going well. The Contrarian selection ends up with -16 units for the season. We started off horrifically, going down 17 units only to bring it back to almost even. From there, we progress back to -16 units. I truly believe a concentrated effort would bring us to profitability. As you know, successful capping takes a ton of time, not to forget the recordkeeping and thread management.

I have always prided myself as a legitimate thread, no hype, no nonsense, including real unit counts and reasonable xpectations. I have always respected opposing points of view and spirited debate. We are a unique community at SBR and would love to improve its relationship with the selecting community.

I have received tons of support from my friends and family and I know you guys out there feel the same. Capping games is fun and for some of us it's real business. But in the shadow of real issues, there is no comparison.

To end on a light note, I know you guys sometimes pray for that strikeout or that bottom of the ninth dinger, how about a quick prayer for the Pair of 5s Sir's father, that he might endure and beat this cooler of a hand.
