    under no circumstance should a pitcher be pulled unless the game gets out of his control.

    If he is doing his job and has control he should play, as I said in another thread I see more games become losers than winners when the backup comes in, in some rare occasions like last night and the night before the cubs offense came back for the win some how and houston offense came back twice sunday night for the win. It was not the backup who saved the game.

    or teams should throw out another starter to finish 2 innings.

    how can a guy come in for 1 or 2 innings and give up 6 runs?? please someone explain. Is it they are cold or what, I think they all just suck.

    AC, my entire life I have been screaming at these moronic managers that "if it ain't broke you shouldn't fix it!" I have seen so many games pissed away in my 58 years you wouldn't believe it. I've seen 6-0 type shutouts blown in the ninth because of pitching changes. These morons would rather get two losing starts for their pitchers than one win. That's just the way it goes. Most frustrating.

          Relief pitching is a specialty. The pitchers who embrace it as such are usually the best. Most don't.

          Part of the problem could be that relief pitchers need to be sharp and ready to go at all times. If they come in with a cut-throat martial arts mentality they're fine. But too often they're drawn into the 'tomorrow's another day' mentality that is seen in most dugouts and written all over the faces of most managers.

          Other problems could be that they're trying too hard (wannabe starters), or not hard enough (disappointed former starters).

          I like playing totals, which has given me far less reason to complain about BP's. Just consider the possible combinations. Warning: this is a rough outline; not hard math.

          Bullpen A normal - Bullpen B normal
          Bullpen A bad - Bullpen B bad <=
          Bullpen A great - Bullpen B great <=
          Bullpen A bad - Bullpen B normal
          Bullpen A bad - Bullpen B great
          Bullpen A normal - Bullpen B bad
          Bullpen A normal - Bullpen B great
          Bullpen A great - Bullpen B normal
          Bullpen A great - Bullpen B bad

          The two situations most likely to mess up a totals bet are the ones with the arrows, and then only half the time depending on whether you're on the over or under. All the other situations, in most games, will not decide the total. Could you say the same thing for sides?

          Or just play first five innings.

            Well if the SP gets up above 110-120 pitches I can definitely see the rationale. Its better to lose a game than lose your pitcher for the rest of the year.
