And they tried to throw him in the rotation. This kid is a lights out closer at this point. No need to mess with that.

He has the determination of a closer without question, which IMO is half the battle becoming an extremely good closer. Rivera goes into the game ASSUMING he gets those outs, so do most Yanks fans. It looks like the the Red Sox, not Yankees, will be the one blessed to have that type of guy for years to come.

i read a quote from him a few days ago he said... "every single pitch i become more confident. i am going to be the next mariano rivera." not a huge NYY fan myself, but if you had to have a closer base his career on one closer who would it be?

I'm a big Sox fan and I love Paps, but you can't say he's going to be better than Rivera yet. Mo is the best closer in the history of baseball. Right now, Papelbon might be the premier closer in the game, but it's still far too early to say he will have a better career than Rivera. Mo has been the best for a decade and has been lights out in the playoffs, while Papelbon has been closing games for only a little over a year and doesn't have 1 save in the postseason.

Hey, I hope you're right.
There's no arguing that he's almost unhittable right now.

That's the key. If he can repeat last season's numbers for the next 10 years and be lights out in the postseason like Rivera then bring on those comparisons. However, we all know that potentially good players all too often never leave as big a legacy as we first thought they could. Apart from Barry Bonds.

I'd probably most likely chose Pags to jack off too.
