David Peterson Now on 60 Day IL With Mets
The Mets received yet another blow to their pitching staff on Saturday, as the club announced that David Peterson has been transferred to the 60-day IL due to a Jones fracture in the fifth metatarsal on his right foot.

Peterson was already on the 10-day IL with an oblique strain, and the thought was he'd be out until some time in August, but this latest injury will require surgery, and any timeline for Peterson's return is now out the window.

Rojas explained how the injury occurred on Saturday.

"Last night, it was one of the things that we ran into after the game. I had no idea what happened until after the game," said Rojas. "We went in the clubhouse and everyone was celebrating the win and I know they were doing the belt ceremony and everything, and I happened to walk by him and that’s when I saw he was wearing a boot, and that’s when I heard the story of what happened. He was just walking back to the clubhouse and he felt a pop in his right foot. The doctor happened to be here and they did an X-ray here, and it came back with a fracture.

"He’s going to have surgery done, and they say these things can heal quick, he could, but we have to wait for the surgery and how he responds. We don’t have a timeline right now, but it was just one of those freak injuries."

Asked to clarify, Rojas re-iterated that Peterson didn't step or trip on anything to cause the injury, as he was simply walking towards the clubhouse.

"He didn’t step on anything. He was just walking and he felt a pop and that’s it," Rojas said. "He was very frustrated. He just didn’t understand how this could happen. … The doctor happened to be here and he explained things to him and the goal now is to get the surgery and to get him healthy again and see if he can come back to us this season."
