Phun with the Phillies, the $1000 experiment

It's Philly's phinest right here trying to make $1000 by the end of the reg. season.

I'll first say I'm not a professional (as you'll see) and don't promise anything so tail at your own risk. This thread is more for my own tracking and help to keep me organized. With that said I am a good baseball fan and a huge Phillies fan as its my home town, I have a good feel for this team.

In recent years this time of year has been profitable for Phillies bettors, their bats are hot and I think their starting pitching is even better this year. I'm looking forward to another world series appearance.

I'll play a martingale style (like JM) and am basically betting the phillies will not get swept the rest of the year. They have an easy schedule and will easily win their division and I think the NL pennant. So I'll be trying to win $50-100 on each series by treating it as a three game chase. I'll be betting side money, parlays, futures, even props, anything Philadelphia that can make me money. But most of the bankroll (thanks to JM system) will be chasing the Phillies.

Like I say I'm not a professional and have already made a decent bankroll this MLB season, so this is fun money for me. I just want to take a shot at my own plays, and add excitement when I'm watching my Phils.

Past three years stats for Phillies from August 15th to end of the season:

2006: 13-0 if you were chasing each series
None of the games in these series' required to bet the third game
29-17 in each individual game for a net of +$671 if betting $100 a game


2007: 14-0 if you were chasing each series
One of the games in these series' required a bet on the third game
27-18 in each individual game for a net of $1215 if betting $100 a game


2008: 12-0 if you were chasing each series
One of the games in these series' required a bet on the third game
28-13 in each individual game for a net of $886 if betting $100 a game

Blanton allowed 10 hits and three runs in eight innings Thursday in a 12-3 victory over the D-backs. Blanton is 8-6 with a 3.86 ERA, and has been one of the team's best starters this season. He worked quickly and efficiently against Arizona, not walking a single batter. "It's a young, aggressive team," Blanton said. "Just because somebody is aggressive it doesn't mean you throw more balls. You still come right at them. Go at them and make your defense do some work. Just keep attacking the zone." He's been doing that to everybody most of the season

Lets go Joe. I understand the value is most likely with PIT, and the phillies can't win every game, so I'm going a bit smaller then I would like to, but as long as the Phillies do not get swept at PNC park, we'll make money.

What a game, Phillies come back in the 9th only to have Lidge blow another save. I can't be too mad though because I went light on this game. Getting in this play overnight because I think this line will only go up. I'm more pissed 'cause Lidge is killing the Phillies right now and we have no other closer.

Well the Phillies sure do make these games exciting to say the least. Two straight games of blown saves, you can't handicap that. Thanks to Ryan Howard for not making me have to sweat today, and welcome back Cole Hamels, he finally pitches a gem, lets hope he can be like that the rest of the season. Their closers are gonna kill me if it's like this the rest of the year.

Thinking about a parlay later with the Eagles, yes Micheal Vick and the Eagles. Any thoughts n1co35?

I think the bats come alive today, after two straight blown saves the Phillies offense will be doing all they can to avoid a save situation and try to win this one without relying on their closer.

Boy was I wrong about the phillies yesterday thinking the bats would come alive, that was a weird series. The phillies have historically struggled at PNC Park so I shouldn't be too surprised. I start a new chase today in the Atlanta series, straight wagers are just that win or lose there is no chasing involved. I am confused about today's line, Phillies a home dog? how is this so? It seems too good to be true so that is a little scary, but I love getting these odds, I have to roll with it.

Well Cliff Lee can't win every game i suppose. That just means next time he pitches is a huge play. I'm passing again on the Phillies game today and will be riding them big for the next series against SF. SF beat the Phillies 3 out of 4 games last time these teams played, and I think Phillies will return the favor.

You guys are right, what has me concerned is that the Phillies are not playing small ball and rely heavily on the home run to produce runs.
Well see how it goes later on in the month, but I am loving them in the San Fran series for these reasons:

-San Fran already beat us 3 out of 4 this year.
-San Fran is coming off of sweeping Colorado and they have not swept two series' back to back all year.
-San Fran is significantly worse when playing on the road. (28-38)
-Cole Hamels in the first game, who pitched a gem last time, and may have returned to his old form.

I'd love to hear your guys' input about this series, but I think it's the best series since I began this little experiment.

Wow, Cole Hamels is back. I think I may just ride him the rest of the year, he is back to pitching like the ace of last year's playoffs. But where is the offense, a 1-0 win, that doesn't seem to justify the -188 i put up to win that game, but I'll take it. Even cashed a little parlay and back on track with the experiment. I think the Phillies will win one more game in this series, lets try to cash it.

Dodged a bullet yesterday, I had a bad feeling about that game so I decided to lay off and I am happy I did. There is something about this Houston series that is a little scary, Houston always seems to play us well. But the phillies have not lost back to back games in over three weeks, so I'll take a stab at a small chase, and I like our pitching matchups for the next three games, lets hope we get one of them.
