The Texas Rangers have agreed to terms with Japanese right-hander Kohei Arihara, a source told The Athletic on Friday evening.
Arihara, 28, had drawn interest from several teams, as the window to sign him was set to close Saturday. The Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres were among the suitors, according to various reports.
In six seasons with the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters, Arihara went 60-50 with a 3.74 ERA. He posted career bests in 2019, including a 15-8 record and a 0.919 WHIP, before slipping to 8-9 with a 1.168 WHIP in 2020.
