Hi guys! Only one week away from opening day, it has been way to long since we last had baseball.
First of all, lets look at the Os schedule. THis shortened season they will face these opponents.
Red sox 10 games
Rays 10 games
Yankees 10 games
Blue Jays 10 games
Nats 6 games
Marlins 4 games
Mets 4 games
Braves 3 games
Phillies 3 games
If you ask me, this might be the toughest schedule in baseball this year when every game will really, really count. Teams that wanna see the playoffs can give no games away. Will the Os be crushed? Can they go 14-46?
Their starting rotation consist of many people I´ve hardly heard of. I guess Trey Mancini was supposed to be their big so called "star" this year, but he will miss the whole season because he underwent cancer surgery in march. Last year he had 20 HRs in the 93 games he played, of course the Os will miss him.
Chris Davis has a cap hit of about 21 million. I´m sure that will be corrected because of the shortened season but anyway he is by far the most well paid player on this roster. He started last year awfully at the plate and hardly played during the second half of the season. SP Alex Cobb has a cap hit of 14 million but only played 12 innings last year, and during these 12 innings he allowed 9 HRs. He ha a WHIP of 1.865 and ERA of over 10.
I can´t really find a guy on this roster that will overperform. Sure Chris Davis might get 10-12 if he´s lucky and he has 295 for his career, but who might go hot, if David doesn´t? The only player on the roster with 40+ HR is 3rd Baseman Renato Nunez. Can we really expect them to get more than 40-45 HR this year?
Their starting rotation hasn´t got a lot of experience. Sure Richard Bleier has 8 wins and only 1 loss, but he´s only started 1 game during his career. Should be a non factor during a shortened season. Mychal Givens has 5 years of experience and a record of 20-16, he´s the only pitcher with 20+ wins on the roster. Verlander got 21 wins for 2019 season only..
If you check the batting statistics for 2019, you´ll see that the Os are in the bottom third of all categories, and I think that will continue.
Is there any reason not to drop the hammer on this one? If so, talk me out of it.
