Got some opinions about the card this evening.
FOR SURE:
Arizona/Colorado Over 12
Already put money on Arizona/Colorado over 12 this morning. Out of Gray and Marquez for Colorado, their starting rotation has been abysmal of getting quality starts this season. Senzatela has gone 1-3 with a ERA over 6 in the month of May and for the D'Backs, Merill Kelly has constantly struggled getting out of the 4th inning this year, especially against division teams (Look no further than the Padres last Wednesday.) Both of these bullpens, Colorado in particular have had many breaks this year and this should be no exception. Arenado is clicking now with 9 HR's in May after a slow beginning. I can see this being high scoring early and with both bullpen's likely coming in earlier than yesterday, mistakes will be made and this, much like most Colorado-Arizona matchups will be in the double digits, even higher than mile high standards.
MULLING OVER:
NY Yankees -1.5 vs. San Diego (LIKELY)
The Yankees are the far better team here both pitching wise and trend wise are concerned. Tanaka hasn't done the best of his work so far this year but he has pitched well enough at home to get wins with the help of their sluggers. I listened to MLB Network yesterday and they talked about how as a young player if you play at a venue such as the Yankees Stadium, Fenway Park, Dodgers Stadium or Wrigley Field, it feels so much different and sort of overwhelming. San Diego has the experience (Machado, Hosmer and Myers) but look no further than Eric Lauer, who is 3-4 this year but has gone winless in six out of his last seven games started. Look for him to have his nerves shattered here as the Yankees continue their hot streak in the month of May.
Detroit/Baltimore over 8.5 (LIKELY)
Very similar to Baltimore and Colorado the past weekend, these are two teams that are going absolutely nowhere besides the couch for months to come. Detroit, after a fair start to the year has dropped 12 out of their 13 games and have choked in their past 3 games against Baltimore yesterday and the Mets in successive afternoons. Neither starting pitcher has recorded a win against the other team with both struggling (Boyd, three starts, 7.62 ERA vs. BAL) and Bundy, 0-1 in two games vs. DET with 7.36 ERA. Not to mention that both bullpens are in total disarray. The Orioles bullpen are exhausted after early beginnings in the series vs. Colorado and the Yankees and the Tigers bullpen collapsed to the Marlins and Mets, almost an oxymoron if you will. A lot of young hitters will want to shine so that maybe they'll be part of a trade deal to get out of these two cities. For tonight, that desire will contribute to runs scored.
St. Louis/Philadelphia over 10 (LIKELY)
Adam Wainwright has looked frill in his starts away from Busch Stadium this year. With an ERA over 6 in his away splits and combined with the fact the St. Louis has gone 7-16 in the month of May this year and have not won back to back contests in the month of May, common sense will tell you that the Phillies are solid favorites to win the game tonight. And they are. However, Nick Pivetta is making his return to pitch his first game in six weeks since being optioned to Triple-A baseball to regain his form. Rust will be a likely side effect even though he did well at Lehigh Valley. Runs haven't been a problem for Philadelphia this year, scoring an average of 4.9 runs the last 7 games on the road. Expect for Pivetta to show some dust after not seeing a MLB field for a while and for the Cards to be motivated to score to get out of this current losing pattern.
Milwaukee/Minnesota under 9.5 (POSSIBLE)
The I-94 series has seen a sharp increase in competition and interest alike this season as both teams have high expectations to do well. The Brewers came from a 4-0 deficit last night to win 5-4 to snap the Twins' winning streak at 6 games. Both teams this evening have their hottest pitchers by the numbers out right now. Zach Davies has gone 5-0 with a 2.95 ERA this season. Countering for Minnesota will be Martin Perez who in the last 7 starts has gone 6-1 with also a 2.95 ERA. The bullpen has mostly been a strength for both teams this year with both having solid closers and deep reserves. While both have dangerous hitters, runs will be at a premium tonight.
Chicago White Sox -152 vs. Kansas City (POSSIBLE)
The White Sox will send out Lucas Gioltto who is becoming quickly their ace with 6-1, 2.77 ERA stats this year. Gioltto has thrown two darts against Toronto and Houston (Complete game with zero runs scored for the Astros.) Chicago needs to get back on track after dropping all three games vs. Minnesota and what better time to do it with a pitcher who has done extremely well lately. Kansas City's starting pitcher, Brad Keller, while his numbers aren't eye popping (3-5, 4.43 ERA) he has performed noticeably better in his last two starts, getting a win his last start vs. St. Louis on Wednesday. I can vision that the Royals will keep the game close early but the White Sox will the outlast the onslaught that Kansas City will go for tonight.
Got a question about one of my picks or another game? Let me know what you guys think.
