So did Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, Barry Bonds and Reggie Jackson - why does that matter

Will be interesting to follow the contract negotiations on this one just like last summer when the Nats were dealing with the antichrist, aka Scott Boras, for Strasburg's deal.

It will totally baffle me that this will take so long to conclude --

The fact are in, he's not getting some crazy deal like 30 or 40 million, Strasburg proved that -

He's not doing anything but signing a deal here, he left school a year ago for this exact reason.

Truth is the Nats have nothing to gain by not having him play ball in thier system for the next two months, especially when the differnce wont be but 3-5 million over 4-5 year.

[quote=gryfyn1;4944827]On the note of leaving school - why do people get an education? to get the best job possible and earn the most money - Harper is already guaranteed to make more than 95% of people - seems the level of schooling he got did its job.[/quote

Money Management baby. I'd argue that an education would certainly help the decision process of a 17 year old with a brinks truck full of cash in his back yard courtesy of the Washington Nats. Imagine yourself at 17 with more money in your bank account than you think you can spend, the hottest chicks on the East coast all up on your jock, the coolest cats wanting to party with you with the best drugs (recall Jeff Allison, Josh Hamilton), smooth talking, seasoned con men with slick investment opportunites in your ear, every great charity with a great message wanting your financial support. Everybody and their brother wanting a piece of you. 17 years old?
I don't know Bryce Harper - I've seen the footage. There's no argument the kids got all the tools and more. I just hope he surrounds himself with some smart people that manage his funds/investments for him so he can concentrate on his game. Because the road to superstardom is littered with Todd Van Poppel's, Jeff Allison's, Todd Marinovich's, Ben McDonald's etc...
All that said - I hope the kid makes it to Cooperstown one day - he's got a sweet looking swing.

Probably hasn't opened a book since the age of (3)...whether or not he stays in school won't matter....may as well as take a shot at the Big League early.

two or three or six more years of college won't change that, is a 19 or 20 or 23 year old really any more able to handle that stuff ?

But yes, surrounding himself his quality people to manage his money will be importnat, but really, again, no schooling will really help that --
