#2Jason, was reading a little more about this kid and being the pessimistic old fart that I am, I'll believe it when I see it. What I was trying to find out is if that bit near the end of this piece about Scott Boras already being his 'advisor' was actually true or not. So far, have not been able to confirm that; he's not showing up yet on Boras' list of amateur clients.Comment -

#3I actually searched this earlier and came up with a few articles that confirmed that Boras was an advisor. I'm quite impressed with him and Wilmer Flores in particular. Baseball should see its share of phenoms, like LBJ in basketball, pretty soon.Comment -

#4Yes, Boras is his advisor. The kid throws 96mph and hit a 507 foot HR at tropicana field, longest HR ever hit in the stadium. There is a clip of it in this video http://www.youtube.com/view_play_lis...&v=jQQ5cZD8PgU.
He was using a metal bat but it is very impressive.Scared money don't make money

#5If the family was just dirt, bottom-dollar poor, I might understand this. But they're not. They've gotten his name out through the media and simply cashing in early, just can't think of any possible way I'd want my kid to just ditch high school to play ball.
By the way, what does it tell you about the entry standards of the College of Southern Nevada if they will enroll a kid BEFORE he even takes his GED?
LINK
Harper and his family told the Las Vegas Review-Journal yesterday that he's going to take his GED test this fall and has already enrolled at the College of Southern Nevada. These steps make Harper eligible for the 2010 Major League Baseball draft, greatly strengthening a rather average class.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Harper hit .626 with 14 home runs, 55 RBIs and 36 stolen bases this season for LVHS; he will play on the same CSN team as his older brother, Bryan, a left-handed pitcher transferring from Cal State Northridge for the 2010 season.Comment -

#6I want to see Miggy Cabrera use a metal bat and see how far he hits it. Specifically at Yankee Stadium. Unreal.Comment -

#7On a side note, the kids parents need to be shot. Letting your son quit HS to pursue a career in MLB. If he takes a bad beat off the knee or tears his rotator, he is done. Has no education to fall upon when he becomes homeless.Comment -

#12your comment is a little premature, If my kid was a sports prodigy, u better believe I would do everything i can to get him out there even if it meant sacrificing some school. You can get an education and a career at anytime, but with sports, you can only succeed when you're young.Comment -

#19I guess you were born with a silver dildo up your ass and have parents like mr and mrs brady . Some of us have to seize the oppurtunitys given to us, or spend the rest of our life regretting that we didnt.
Congratulations on your narrow view of things. Get outside of your daddys penthouse and experience the real world. Not everyone is or even wants to join the ranks of uptight snobby ph.ucks like yourself.Comment -

#24big kid with more moving parts than a fukking transformer. guy has big swing speed, but who the fukk doesnt when they try to kill every ball coming at them??? looks good hitting 60mph balls out of the park with aluminum, but hasnt even seen college level pitches, so i dont see what all the hype is. his parents are money hungry and dont care if their kid is a dumbass or not. good luck to him, he will need itComment -

#25I know where you he-should-finish-high-school people are coming from, but honestly, this kid was put on the planet to play baseball. I don't doubt that he may end up dumb as a bag of rocks and socially awkward to boot, but this kid is arguably the greatest baseball prospect of all time. His first contract alone in the $50-$75 million range will set him up for life much much more comfortably than all of us here on the board with our high school and/or college degrees.
I wish I was so naturally gifted at something that there was a crystal clear multi-million dollar career laid out for me, too. Honestly, fvck high school.Comment -

#31On the note of leaving school - why do people get an education? to get the best job possible and earn the most money - Harper is already guaranteed to make more than 95% of people - seems the level of schooling he got did its job.Comment -
