Tough call, Villa has been pretty good lately. Reds bats been awful and Cubs coming off loss.

All the making for a Cubs win

Reds bats woke up yesterday scoring 6 - Samardzija only lasted 5 innings vs the Padres

Cubs had 15 hits and left 12 on base yesterday I think this is the only game the Cubs have a chance but I still can't back them Cincinnati always finds a way to sweep them

Feldman threw a 3 hit shutout last time out vs the Padres - 1st time he will face his old team but shouldn't be any surprises for the Rangers

Cubs have been playing well but continue to lose close games the bullpen has been atrocious again blowing 2 more saves

Tepesch gave up 5 runs in his last start; haven't seen him pitch so not weighing much into that

Good call on the ML didn't expect Feldman to pitch that well at least the Cubs got 9 themselves

Wood has been lights out his last start vs the Padres was great but ended in a loss he threw 7 scoreless but gave up 3 runs in the 8th where he couldn't get out of trouble a typical Cubs collapse - Wood has struggled @Wrigley

                        CHC-Wrigley Fld 3 8 .273 4.11 19 19 118.1 96 59 54 15 38 88 6
Cardinals lineup has done well vs Wood posting a .354 batting avg vs him

Craig has the hot bat batting .291 with 25 RBIs - 4 for 10 1 HR vs Wood
Yadier highest BA on team .328 - 4 for 14 2 HR vs Wood
Holiday 6 for 18 2 HR 2 doubles vs Wood

Cardinals have been on a tear winning 6 straight scoring 35 runs over that stretch (5.83 rpg) including a 4 game sweep of the Brewers who swept the Cubs not that long ago

Cubs have been hitting the ball MUCH better over the last 7 games the team BA was .277 and knocked in 42 runs (6 rpg) also 9 runs last night was the season high - Rizzo has been tearing the ball off the cover during this homestretch 13 for 28 (.464) including 6 doubles and is 3 for 5 lifetime vs Lynn

Weather should be nice tonight no rain in the forecast and its beautiful out now

Westbrook has only given up 4 ER (0 HRs) in 33.2 IP

Cardinals had a chance last night to rally until Molina got picked off - Cubs never threatened besides the 2-run shot

Nueva has been reliable but he always makes that one mistake that throws away the game

                                  ( J SAMARDZIJA -R / R DETWILER -L )

Samardzija has held batters to .210 BA and has 52 strikeouts - he's always given the Cubs a chance to win the game but the lack of run support has hurt him

Zimmerman 0 for 11 vs the Shark - Harper out of the lineup today

Detwiler has lost 3 straight giving up 25 hits 9 runs and his last two starts only lasted 5 innings

Rizzo is hot batting .429 over last 13 games - Soriano also was hitting well over the homestretch batting .367
Castro 3 for 6 vs Detwiler
                                  Harriston 5 for 9 with 1 HR 3 2Bs vs Detwiler

Cubs pen is atrocious and they activated Fujikawa so he'll be available which might not be good for the Cubs

The Nats pen on the other hand has been awesome throwing 15 straight shutout innings

                                        ( S FELDMAN -R / G GONZALEZ -L )

Feldman has been outstanding this year and in his last 3 hes went 3-0 only giving up 4 runs (3 solo HRs) on 12 hits

Suzuki (5 for 17) and Span (4 for 14) only two Nat hitters that have seen Feldman before - Harper returning to the lineup but Nats still have the 3rd worst team BA (.223) in the MLB

Rizzo just won't cool down getting 3 more hits and 2 RBIs yesterday giving him a .448 BA and 14 RBIs over the last 15 games - Valbuena is out of the lineup after jamming his finger - Castro 4 for 7 vs Gio

Gio has been shaky in every start this year expect for one vs the Reds where he only have up 1 hit (solo homer) in 8 innings which won't happen again as long as the Cubs hitters stay patient and force him to hit his spots

The plate is as big as the batters box today.

                                            2 balls on both sides.

No need to hit any spots in the actual strike zone to do well today.

Spots outside of it will work fine.

Cubs took two out of three from the Nationals (should've swept but a stupid error) while the Rockies lost two out of three to the Cardinals they also had a 28 inning scoreless streak until they snapped it yesterday

Cubs have the advantage in starters over the series and tonight they face Nicasio who hasn't made it to the 6th inning in any of his last 6 starts - Wood on the other hand has been great and coming off a win vs the Cardinals and current Rockies hitters 2 for 21 lifetime vs Wood

Also Cuddyer just got placed on the 15 day DL (.319 BA 7 HR 23 RBI)

Rockies had 17 hits yesterday scoring 9 runs mainly due to Gonzalez going 5 for 5 with 2 homers and a double - If Rockies bats are waking up this game could be trouble for the Cubs

Samardzija 0-5 in last 7 starts sporting a 4.43 ERA

Garland only lasted 5 innings in his last two starts giving up 3 runs in both of them
