biff,
"how to play a team that tends to wilt in the late innings" department
real-time case study here...as of a few minutes ago, at the same book...
FF +105
ML +113
(note: books seem to have this tendency factored in)
I went the ML route...but, as I mentioned in an earlier post...will have to chek bak in the 6th inning and hedge out of any lead of less than 3 runs...if they are losing, i at least get a few extra innings...
dunno if this is better or worse (it's certainly more labor-intensive, thus more error-prone...so it'll have to prove clearly better to make it worth the extra effort) over the haul than going the FF route...thot i'd just do one of these on every one of your FF bets and keep a record of how I fare with this
"ML+in-play gymnastics if necessary" method vs the "strightforward FF" bet

Wow, that is very interesting. I saw on Twitter recently that Cubs are something like +33 runs in the first five innings this season and -31 runs in innings 6 and later. Think it makes a ton of sense that, if you like a bad team, play them FF (or FF and full-game). Teams like Astros, Cubs, Marlins, Brewers start off well so that they can have the opportunity to blow it later (that's why they're bad teams). Books will never price that disparity properly, i don't think. i know that Cubs FF MLs have been good to me this year, even if tonight sucks.

when they stink start-to-finish like tonight, doesn't really matter how u play 'em...and the FF has an extra advantage there come to think of it...ends your misery earlier
i give the cubs the TorontoMapleLeafs-inspired "MELTY" award...with those other clubs you mentioned in contention
____________
BTW, one book that I know of...WagerWeb...offers bets on FirstHalf (innings 1-5) AND LastHalf (innings 6-end)...any other books offer a LastHalf bet as well?

Damn the 1 time I like scrubbies ff I see u not on it, lol..
think wacha flaka will be better away from the circus that surrounded him in stl(although he was good his 1st start pen let him down), cards should get him a few early and don't think he needs much of a 3rd pitch to handle muts..
Might join u on pads..gl tonight

Thanks a lot for the words of encouragement, IB. Definitely taking tonight off. Gonna go for a long swim and try to exercise/exorcise the poison and evil out of me. BOL to you tonight, pal.

Biff, hope you enjoyed the day off. Lets get back at tomorrow. BOL
I like one morning match up and one afternoon match up for the Open:
7am Watney +105 over Mahan
1pm McDowell +104 over Furyk
Almost pulled trigger on Phil -101 over Keegan. Phil didn't practice this week and today he was at his daughters 8th grade graduation and not getting back to the Open until late tonight for a very early morning tee time. Would think he'd be plus money given circumstances. I have a crazy feeling he gets off to a good start. Clear head, relax and could see him putting up a good number. Think I may have talked myself into playing Phil.

Hey, what's up? Thanks for posting this. Gonna tail you on McDowell, other two already started. Have McDowell in my US Open pool (also, Tiger, Westwood, Els, Fowler). BOL today.

Debating the same play. Only thing that worries me is Detwiler, as he's been pretty steady this season. That said, the Rockies have hit him well in limited plate appearances. What's your angle here? BOL.
