Its basically 2 teams fighting for my cause or against me for example if i handicap a game as a over contest, i don't worry about who wins game, i just have to project if both will enough combine to cover total line. Conversely if i like under, i like the SP metrics, both BP at the time, the it tough for batters to start putting up 3 run inning late in the game & blowing my play.

The most important reason is "Wager were you have an edge, provided i have done research and thorough analysis of my information"
