I assume this is a trade for the future and not this season they have no chance at even the second wild card

Harrison is dogshit. He's beyond damaged goods. Getting rid of his $28m in salary is an absolute bonus.
I subscribe to the "whoever gets the best player in the deal wins the trade" theory. And as y'all know...I have a major fukkin clue.
We got Cole Freakin' Hamels.
We win.

I bet he wanted to go to the Dodgers. His childhood team. And in California, where he grew up.

Seems like you may know even less about baseball than you do football.
You get one of the very top pitchers in MLB under contract for 4 years, plus a 96 mph lefty reliever....and still manage to keep your top 2 sluggers in your farm system. As well as unloading an aging pitcher coming off of spinal fusion surgery making $28 million.
Anyone who can't see that's a win is either stupid, or an eagles fan.
Forgive me for being redundant.
Enjoy Sanchez to Cooper.

Rangers are only 4.5 games out of the wild card, so "no shot" is extreme.

look man it makes perfect sense.
The Rangers can score but they have no pitching.
The season is NOT over for the Rangers
Nolan Ryan saw Hamels and it reminded him of CJ Wilson back in the day when Ron Washington was manager and they made all those world series runs and came up short every time.

Fields too crowded, they have to hop 6 teams. In this new era of 2 wild cards everyone thinks they are contenders.
Except the phils.

You're throwing out a Jake Dietman reference along with his 5.15 era!!! Funny shit.
Phils had to trade Hamels this year. His 10 and 5 no trade clause kicks in after the season. They received 4 of your top 13 prospects and you think this is a good trade? I don't know much about the SP Phils received and the injury he's coming off but I like the trade. At least they are doing something.
Romo hands off to ???????????? How's that Defense looking this year

thats why they play the games man.
Fact of the matter is they mathmatically have a chance.
This move gives people of Texas hope and that is important. You always gotta believe in yourself if you want to achieve. Its no secret Texas sports have been shit for awhile now... Cowboys choked, Mavericks choked, Darvish went down.... this town of Dallas needs a team to get behind and cheer for in meaninful games.

Using your theory, the Phils are only 18.5 games out and have a CHANCE!!! Go Phils!! 9-2 since the break!

Having the desire to succeed is sometimes the most important decision a franchise has to make.
You will NEVER win if you don't want to win.
Unfortunately for Phillies fans the ownership had already given on trying to be competitive before this season ever began.
We are also seeing a fukked up situation in Detroit where the Tigers owner is giving up on the season and the team is not out of it. Its sad for the players and fans who put their heart and soul into it.

This trade has very little bearing on this year. While I agree the Rangers are still in contention for the Wild Card, they're not real contenders this year.
This trade was made because you get an absolute ELITE pitcher signed to your team for 4 years. This wasn't your typical "rental" at the deadline. This trade makes the Rangers significantly better for 2016 and several years after. A rotation of Darvish, Hamels, Holland, Perez, Chi-Chi/Colby looks pretty good where I'm sitting.
As I said, I subscribe to the best player in the trade theory. Hamels is clearly that. But if we're gonna be honest....let's all check back here in 3 years and then we'll actually know who won this one.
