I know it is meaningless, but at least they are a better #1 than FSU.

BUT I don't that Mississippi State will be the highest ranked team in the state if Mississippi at the end of the year.

They def deserve it right now. I like them a lot going forward too, but Im not sure Mullen is a good enough coach to run the table. I like him, just not the guy I would take in a pressure game where a coach may have to make a move or two to win. @ Alabama, @ Ole Miss plus the SEC title game (Georgia). If they get through everything with only 1 loss they deserve the playoffs for sure

One of Best defenses in the country, Rebels are for real. Winning AT A&M was huge, they now have favorable schedule rest of the way.

Their two toughest games left are both at home, Auburn and Miss State.

Miss St. @ Ole Miss on Nov 29th.

Could decide who goes to playoff maybe?

Although its unlikely to happen because of State's tough schedule, IF both Mississippi schools are undefeated going into their regular season finale and the winner of that game then wins the SEC, they could BOTH go to playoff! I don't think State will win out though.

if both go undefeated until then, and the winner goes on to beat georgia in the SEC title, I think there will be a strong case for both making the playoffs. I cant see it happening though, but a 1 loss Ole Miss or 1 loss Miss State will have a better resume than any other team in the country with a loss. Will be interesting for sure, but I think Bama gets Miss State and I think Georgia is gonna win the SEC.

I agree, because I think they both do have a shot to go to playoff.

But I also disagree because I think the selection committee will be pressured not to make the inaugural playoff an SEC-off

exactly, but i think it will have more to do with both teams from Mississippi and both teams are not big time programs. if it was Auburna nd Alabama we wouldnt be having this convo. its not fair, but its reality

And the committee won't care. They will take the four best teams, hell if Florida State loses to Louisville as I expect, I could see THREE SEC teams in Playoff. 3 SEC + Baylor/Oklahoma winner. Oregon's loss to Arizona is probably already a worse loss than a one-loss SEC team would have. I guess Clemson COULD have a chance if they win out. And forget about Big 10 winner.

    Big 12 - Baylor, Oklahoma
    ACC - Florida State
    Big 10 - Michigan State/Ohio State winner
    PAC 12 - Oregon
    Ind - Notre Dame

Those are the only teams I can see getting in over a 2nd SEC team with 1 loss (not saying they will, saying they have a chance). Baylor or Oklahoma needs to win out and they are in. Mich St/OSU winner needs to win out, same with Oregon. Florida State could slip once and still get in over a 1 loss SEC team. If Notre Dame loses a close one to a top team they will get in over a 1 loss SEC team as well.

Only lock for the playoffs is the SEC champ and probably Florida State. Other two spots are between Big 12, Big 10, PAC 12, and 1 loss SEC team.

when its all said and done I think we will see...

    SEC champ
    Florida State
    Mich St/OSU winner
Oregon, 1 loss SEC team, or Baylor/Oklahoma winner

really think winner of Mich St/OSU will win out. Oregon the only team from the PAC with a chance and they have to win out. I expect Baylor and Oklahoma to lose along the way as well.

I forgot about Notre Dame. But Big 10 champ and Oregon don't deserve final four spot. And if Florida State loses a game ACC champ not assured a spot either. I don't think there are any restrictions like with the BCS system, playoff committee's only instructions are to take the four "best" teams. I bet SEC gurus were behind that loose wording.

Bama and ole miss both will beat miss state.. I just don't see Ole Miss losing cause of their defense, then offensively they got bad ass skill players and now Wallace, the senior, is playing the best ball of his life.. Ole Miss gonna win the title, hide n watch..

    Undefeated Baylor
    One-loss Michigan State
    Undefeated Marshall
    One-loss Georgia

    Undefeated/One-loss Miss St.

I know everyone will say Marshall, but which other teams are fukked out of the playoffs?

I couldn't add Auburn to the mix, just look at that fukkin schedule. They'll lose at least one more game.

Add Ohio State if they beat Mich State... add Oklahoma if they beat Baylor. better to narrow SEC down to the champ getting in and if there is a 1-loss team them getting consideration.

Baylor/Oklahoma winner if they win out
    Oregon if they win out
Mich St/OSU winner if they win out
    Florida State
    Notre Dame
    SEC champ
    SEC team with 1 loss

Good thinking although to be honest if Notre Dame wins by a TD+ I think we can count Florida State out. A very close win by FSU should still keep ND in the mix.

I dont know, I think FSU gets in with one loss over a Big 12 and Big 10 team with one loss, Oregon will get in if they win out hands down regardless. I agree that a close FSU win over ND keeps ND in the picture. Would be interesting to see it come down to Notre Dame and SEC team with one loss. No clue how voters will come out on that one.

^ Stax I hope Fsu could get in with 1 loss but honestly they we looked so far this year. I dont think it will happen unless there are a lot of 2 loss teams.

I disagree with the two bold, one-loss SEC team gets in over either. Oregon's loss already worse than what an SEC team would have and the Big Ten simply sucks and does not deserve a spot over these other considerations. And AGAIN I forgot about Notre Dame If Notre Dame goes undefeated, they are in. If Notre Dame lose only to Florida State and FSU goes undefeated, choice for fourth team in greenhippo's scenarios above comes down to Notre Dame or Miss. State/Miss winner. If Notre Dame only loses to FSU but FSU loses to someone else (Louisville anyone?), then I think SEC team beats ND out.

Since hippo left out Notre Dame and underfeated FSU, the third answer becomes Mississippi State/Ole Miss winner.
