Wizzle's 2013-2014 NBA Thread

Been looking forward to the new NBA season for quite some time. A lot of you know me but for those who don't I've had various threads over the past few years. Always thrived in the playoffs but the regular season has been very much hit or miss. I try to incorporate everything into my style - knowledge of the game, line movement, situational angles.

One thing I am really going to try to do this year is zero in more on my plays. Of course we all have our action-heavy nights but I want to try and keep this from becoming a thread with hundreds upon hundreds of plays. I've cut down on my football bets and it has worked well for me and I will try to do the same here.


The biggest thing I hope to have in this thread is good discussion. There's a lot of guys who I've talked to about the NBA here over the years and I look forward to seeing you all this season. Hopefully we see some new faces as well.

OK here is the deal. I know I'm going to get asked about unit size so let's get that out of the way first. I've always gone with $20 units around here in past years but this year I'm bumping it to $40. I was going to go with $50 but I thought that would complicate things with half unit plays not being round numbers (ex. half unit = $25) so I'm going with $40/unit. The last two seasons my playoff threads ended up like +200 units each which seems a bit outrageous. Nothing to sneeze at making 4 grand in the playoffs but some probably saw that and thought 200 units = $20k.

Ok just wanted to get that out of the way.

Bulls looked great in the preseason for whatever that's worth. I think the Heat are going to be very flat tonight. I really thought hard about passing on the spread and just taking the moneyline. Miami has some new pieces and it's going to take them some time to gel. On top of that, it's not easy coming off back to back championship seasons. That's a hell of an accomplishment. I'm not saying they aren't motivated but it would not surprise me to see them not play as sharp this year as they were last season, especially early on.

The Heat didn't get any major parts where it would take long to gel. They got role players. THe difference is that the Heat will always have one of the big three on the floor and the offense will always run through them. Teams that take long to gel are when superstars come together.

Right but as a team I think they will be flat and guys like Beasley don't just fit in automatically. He needs to touch the ball a lot. James has no problem passing but the ball is in his hands most of the time.

Been sweating by ass off on the Magic game, got lucky as shit with a backdoor cover. Orlando was in it most of the way but bad teams just sometimes give up on you in the 4th for no reason and even make a +12 spread a sweat

Yea originally Magic were my favorite play but I didn't want to take them because I thought Pacers would pull away late and win by double digits. That's what ended up happening but Magic managed to hold on for the cover. Nice hit.

When Vaughn put Oladipo at PG late in the 3rd it completely killed their offensive flow. I think they scored 1 point in about 7 minutes and looked like complete dogshit. I'm not saying the guy sucks but def not an NBA PG yet, I like him better at the 2.

I agree there's a chance. We pretty much already know 6 playoff teams unless Curry's ankles die on him, I think the Mavs have a good shot to get #7, that leaves one spot for teams like the TWolves, Blazers, Nuggets etc.

I like all three of these plays. Also, looking at Wizards +3 and Cavs +3.5. You would think the Nets would be favored by more than 3.5 pts against Cleveland, which leads me to believe that this is a trap line to get people to bet Brooklyn. Any thoughts on these two games t-wizzle?
