    Jose Aldo v Chad Mendes

This is a rematch of a fight from UFC 142. Although two years have passed, I see the outcome of the fight being the same. Jose Aldo is just a dangerous fighter. He is an excellent striker, has great leg kicks. Although not too much of a wrestler, fighters are so preoccupied with his striking that he nails 75% of his takedowns. Additionally, he has fought some great wrestlers(Lamas, Edgar) and has stuffed 91% of the takedowns due in part to his excellent takedown defense footwork. Even, when taking to the ground he has excellent grappling to get back to his feet.

Mendes remains the same fighter since UFC 142, He has a ton of power and good striking. He is an extremely good wrestler as well and shoots an awesome double leg to get his opponent to the ground. Unfortunately once on the ground, he doesn't have great grappling and uses the top position to smother rather than do damage. He has great takedown defense, and no one has ever taken down Mendes. I don't see Aldo looking for the fight to the ground in this fight, anyway.

The issue for this fight is the same ones Mendes faced in 2012. He shot 7 times in their last fight and was unable to get Aldo down a single time. Additionally, although he landed peppery shots it was clear that Aldo had the cleaner, stronger strikes. If Aldo is able to land his leg kicks, he will sap Mendes takedown ability. And that's whats going to happen again in this fight. Mendes has good striking, but nowhere near the capabilities of Aldo. Aldo has a 4 inch reach advantage and a baseball bat for a leg. I don't see Mendes being able to take Aldo down, and this fight will be in Aldo's domain with Aldo beating Mendes on the feet.

At no point was this official voted upon in a poll, this is, at best, heresy.

I probably won't start seriously capping this card until next week.. Things change from week to week with these fighters.. No worthy write ups out yet either for this event..

Too early in the game to start breaking down this beast me tinks....

Am thinking about this Phil Davis/Glover match up for some reason tonight... Not alot to watch on TV I suppose..

Phil has never been KO'd or stopped in his MMA career, he is more athletic, likes to fight at a distance when standing and has the wrestling advantage going into this one. http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Phil-Davis-27802.. Phil Davis is not an aggressive stand up fighter and doesn't have the striking to knock out Glover either. Both are very durable fighters in other words. So logic suggests that this fight will go the distance and probably Glover winning by decision on points..

The odds also reflect this out come unfortunately...... -285 for the straight Glover win and -210 for the 2 1/2 over round bet..

Gonna probably end up parlaying the over rounds bet first at -210 if I do.. Will wait on the props to come out on this fight... Just thinking this scrap over tonight... Thought to type out my thoughts and share anyways..

Complete lunacy, I wish I had hit Mendes for the few minutes that line was up. Got him at +280, still think that is an excellent price.

Odds for the main card have been out for a while Jibster, i.e. you´ve probably missed a bunch of the collective boats already. Its you vs us and the squares now.

I saw that the odds were out for some time now big Wilbo..... Odds haven't moved either in the main event as they are still sitting at -260 on 5D today for Aldo straight...

The money line definately moved for main event, but looks to be returning slowly to open.

Either way, I got Glover at -180 at one of my rec books a few days before even 5d openers, confusining but delicious.

-180 is a great price for Glover straight... He'll probably win Wilbster.. GL!!!!! I would have jumped on that for sure...

Phil's only chance really is to get Glover down and keep him there for each round... JJ had a hard time doing that to Glover over 5 rounds... but Phil Davis can wrestle his arse off so you never know??.. Bottom line though - Glover simply is darn hard to take down in the first place and will certainly be hard to keep there in this rebound fight after the loss.... I also highly doubt Phil Davis can out strike Glover standing either. Fairly solid play Wilbo me tinks!!!.

Fantastic price if Dildo86 really did get it. I'm on Glover @ -230. Not a huge bet. Davis could win through being busier on the feet & scoring takedowns.

Right Pun right.. I am the KING of nothing these days and really just a squirrel trying to get a nut.. I'm a humble soul Pun and you got me all wrong...

With that being said - Does his majesty Pun have any better insight on this fight then what I already said???.. Perhaps next time I should try harder to say something magical, use divine terminology to wow the board.. Hmmm? Knowing me and being the simple man that I am - I'll probably just continue to keep it simple and real and call the fight how it's likely going to go down~!!!!
