Two improving teams, the Nashville Predators and Ottawa Senators, face off in Canada’s capital on Monday. Read on for our best Predators vs. Senators pick based on top odds.

The Ottawa Senators' power-play has fueled the team's rocket trip up the Eastern Conference standings – but they might just meet their match Monday night.

After a disappointing start to the season, the Senators appear to be headed in the right direction – having rolled to a 12-6-2 record following a 6-12-1 start. Ottawa has scored 13.33 goals per 60 minutes of five-on-four play in that stretch, the second-most productive power play team in the league behind only the Edmonton Oilers.

But things might get tough Monday against a Nashville Predators team that has just one regulation loss in its last nine games.  mediocre start dragged on even longer. The Preds' power play was awful early in the season but is scoring at the third-highest rate in the league over the past three weeks.

Both teams are still within striking distance of a playoff spot, but there is little room for error. That puts some real stakes at play for this January interconference game.

The consensus moneyline opened with both sides priced at -105. In early wagering, 56% of the cash is on Ottawa, moving the line to -118 for an Ottawa victory, with a Nashville win priced at +107.

The consensus total opened at 6, priced at -115 for the Over and +104 for the Under. Even with 96% of the very early money on the Over, the consensus total at Pregame.com sits at -106 for the Over and -104 for the Under.

High scoring does not fit with the image of the Predators, a team that ranks 26th in the league with 2.75 goals per 60 minutes.

However, part of the reason for that low scoring total was Nashville’s abysmal power play numbers early in the season. With the Preds making progress on that front, they're certainly capable of featuring in a higher scoring game.

Nashville has exceeded six goals in nine games and hit that number three other times in 20 road games this season.

Nashville goaltender Juuse Saros has been better on home ice this season, but some of that is due to the Preds having a leaky defensive record on the road. Nashville is allowing 34.4 shots against per 60 minutes away from home, which ranks 28th in the league.

Saros has a .909 save percentage on the road but, because of high shot volume, still boasts a mediocre 3.18 goals-against average away from Tennessee.

The Senators are coming off an 8-4 home loss to Seattle on Saturday. Ottawa has hit a total of more than six goals eight times, with four more games landing exactly on six, in 21 home games.

Sens netminder Cam Talbot has a .908 save percentage and 3.00 goals against average in 12 games at home. He has allowed three goals or more in six of his past seven starts.

This looks like a competitive matchup and the improved power play production for both teams increases the probability that this game will go Over 6.
