Our Michigan vs. Iowa prediction based on the best college basketball odds expects a huge night from Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark with a record on the line.

Iowa Hawkeyes standout Caitlin Clark has emerged as a major storyline during the 2023-24 college basketball season, and all eyes are on the senior star on Thursday night. She need just eight points to surpass Kelsey Plum and become the all-time leading scorer in NCAA women's basketball history.

With the Michigan Wolverines coming to Iowa City to take on the Hawkeyes on Thursday, Clark is poised to break the record and beat up on a program experiencing a down year. Coming off a surprising road loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Iowa can bounce back against the Wolverines behind its offensive explosiveness.

The Hawkeyes are an 18.5-point favorite at our best sportsbooks, and Michigan will be the next victim amid Clark mania due to its poor defense.

Here is our best Michigan vs. Iowa prediction and our college basketball picks (odds via our best March Madness betting sites; Pick confidence is based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

The Iowa Hawkeyes boast the best offense in women’s college basketball for the second straight season. Iowa is averaging a nation-leading 92.1 points per game behind Caitlin Clark, and the Hawkeyes have been among the best all-around shooting teams in college basketball.

Clark is poised to do a whole lot more damage than just eight points against this Michigan Wolverines defense.

Michigan is allowing 61.3 points per game (109th in the country) and 66.8 points per contest in the Big Ten. Opponents are shooting 42.3% from the floor, 48.4% from two, and 30.7% from three against Kim Barnes Arico’s program — all of which are in the bottom half of the country. That should lead to Clark licking her lips at the opportunity to make a statement in what will be her record-breaking game.

Clark is poise to become th most prolific scorer in women’s college basketball history due to her ability to adapt and attack the weakest point of a defense. With Michigan, that’s the inability to guard inside the arc, as the team ranks 311th in opponents' 2-point percentage during 2023-24. With her mid-range game and the athleticism to attack the rim, Clark is shooting 59% from two on 9.1 attempts per game. That forces defenses to play her honestly, despite how dominant she is from three.

The three-time All-American is averaging a career-high 32.1 points per game and taking 13.3 threes per outing. That's up by nearly four attempts from 2022-23. Clark is shooting 39.3% from deep, and she leads the country with 5.2 made threes per game. The combination of her game-changing 3-point shooting and ability to attack from two makes her nearly impossible to stop. Clark has produced 11 games with at least 35 points this campaign.

Caitlin Clark Over 34.5 pointsCaitlin Clark 35.5N/AN/AN/A
-110-114N/AN/AN/A

Of our two best sports betting sites posting Caitlin Clark's points total, only DraftKings is offering a 34.5 line. Taking the Over on that at -110 would seem like iffy value at best for any other player in women's college basketball. But Clark is a one-of-a-kind scorer.

Clark leads the country in points per game by nearly five points, and she's ranked among the top two in points per outing during all four of her seasons in Iowa. She’s scored at least 35 points 27 times over 125 games with Iowa, with 44% of those affairs coming during 2023-24.

Michigan vs. Iowa odds analysis

Just DraftKings and FanDuel are offering odds on the Michigan-Iowa women’s college basketball game. Both opened with the Hawkeyes as the 18.5-point favorites, with DraftKings offering it at -110 and FanDuel featuring -114. With Michigan struggling, expect the line to move a few more points in Iowa’s favor as tipoff approaches. Iowa is 14-9 against the spread during 2023-24, and Michigan is 6-8.

Given the dominance of the Hawkeyes' offense and Clark being an unstoppable force, the game total opened at 154.5 through both DraftKings (-110) and FanDuel (-114). The total should continue to rise, with Iowa and its opponents combining to sail past the 154.5-point total 15 times this season.
