Alouettes vs. Tiger-Cats Prediction, Expert Picks & Odds: CFL Football, Aug. 2

Coming off a comeback win in Week 8, the Alouettes continue to look like the league's best team, even without Cody Fajardo. Can the struggling Tiger-Cats keep it close?

Even a 13-point halftime deficit with a third-string QB running the offense can't slow down the Montreal Alouettes (6-1), so how are the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-5) going to do it?

Montreal remains the Grey Cup odds favorite in the East with star QB Cody Fajardo on the mend, and I have no reason to doubt it in my Alouettes vs. Tiger-Cats prediction.

Though the Alouettes are on the road, heading to Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ont., for Friday's game at 7:30 p.m. ET (TSN/RDS, CFL+), they remain 4.5-point favorites across our best sportsbooks in Canada.

Still down Fajardo and it doesn't seem to matter all that much for Montreal. While they were losing 16-3 at halftime to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Week 8, backup QB Caleb Evans was benched for Davis Alexander. Alexander proceeded to complete 83% of his passes while throwing for 178 yards and two scores, all while leading the Als to a 20-16 win.

Though Montreal did remove Fajardo from the six-game injured list, it appears Alexander will make his first career start against Hamilton to give the franchise QB another week to heal. The Tiger-Cats are the perfect team to debut against, too, allowing the most points per game in the league (31.6) and the third-most yards per game (377.0).

Star receiver Tyson Philpot should have a field day against this secondary - he's second in the CFL in receiving yards (690) - and running back Walter Fletcher remains one of the best all-around threats. He's the only player in the league with 300-plus rushing and receiving yards.

And of course, Montreal's defense is the really difference maker in this game. It's the best in the league and allowing the fewest yards per game (333.6), the least passing yards (223.1), the lowest QB rating (80.4), and the fewest points (21.7). Good luck to Bo Levi Mitchell and Co.

A $10 winning bet on Montreal to cover pays an $8.70 profit. The Als are 4-3 ATS this season while Hamilton is just 2-5.
