My best Washington vs. Purdue prediction focuses on Washington's offensive struggles, while also highlighting that most of Purdue's defensive struggles have stemmed from a very difficult schedule. Below, I explain why Purdue's excellent recent performances give the team numerous advantages over a Washington squad that is 0-3 in the Big Ten.

Purdue is favored by 3.5 points ahead of tonight's 8 p.m. ET game at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Ind. The game will air on FOX and stream on FOX One.

Purdue -3.5 (-110 via FanDuel)

Purdue is 3-3, with all three losses coming against ranked teams. This defense's numbers look unimpressive on the surface, but much of that comes from facing three teams that rank in the top 30 in points per game.

Purdue just dominated a Minnesota team that defeated Michigan and won at Washington, holding the Golden Gophers to just 27 rushing yards while amassing 305 of their own. After his 195-yard, three-touchdown performance, I'm expecting another solid game from Fame Ijeboi against a defense that just allowed 208 yards and two touchdowns to Iowa's Kamari Moulton.

📡 SBR Edge: Washington's third down struggles

Washington struggles to sustain drives, converting just 31.25% of third-down attempts, which ranks 122nd in the country. Purdue held Illinois and Minnesota to a combined 11-for-26 on third down over the last two weeks.

Washington's offense has been a disaster

Washington scored 24 points against Iowa last week, but 14 of them came after the team fell behind by 24. Although Washington has scored at least 21 points in all three Big Ten games, the offense ranks 88th in points per game (26.2), 88th in yards per game (369.8), and 84th in yards per play (5.68).

Because Purdue's schedule has been so tough, the defense ranks 121st in points allowed per game. But in two wins against Illinois, the country's 56th-ranked scoring offense, and Minnesota, the nation's 71st-ranked scoring offense, Purdue allowed an average of just 15 points per game. Purdue also allowed an average of just 310 yards per game and 5.3 yards per play.

Score prediction: Purdue 27, Washington 17
