Ontario’s regulated market generated $400.6 million in non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) for June, according to figures posted by iGaming Ontario. It marks the fourth time this year that gaming revenue topped $400 million.
NAGGR in June was up 30.6% year-on-year from $307 million, but down 3% compared to May’s record-setting total of $413 million. Total cash wagers for the month were also up year-on-year, rising 30.3% from $7.3 billion to $9.5 billion. The figure was also stable compared to last month.
Ontario online casinos continued to make up the largest share of the market, producing $316.8 million in NAGGR for the month, ranking as the fourth-highest monthly casino total on record, but down 3% from the all-time high of $326.5 million in May.
Ontario sports betting apps produced $78.6 million in the month, also down 3% from May, despite the month including the first three weeks of the men's FIFA World Cup. The figure was up year-on-year, however, rising 33.9% from $59 million. Peer-to-peer poker NAGGR declined month-on-month and year-on-year, falling 4% and 3.8% to $5.2 million, respectively.
Since Ontario's online gambling market launched in 2021, total NAGGR has generated $12.6 billion, with online casino generating almost $9.5 billion, or around 75% of total revenue, and Ontario sports betting contributing almost $2.8 billion. Online poker has accounted for $259.7 million, or around 2% of total revenue.
The province has collected roughly $2.5 billion in taxes from the sector over the same period, accounting for around 20% of total gross gaming revenue.
Ontario gains Hard Rock Bet
One of the most recent additions to the Ontario market is online gambling company Hard Rock Digital, which launched its first expansion outside the US earlier this month.
According to the company, the Hard Rock Bet platform offers over 3,000 online casino games as well as its own sportsbook. Hard Rock Bet says that the online casino will include slot games, table games, and live dealer titles provided by several content providers and that Ontario customers can also earn loyalty points through online play, which can be redeemed via the Hard Rock Bet rewards program.
“Expanding into Ontario with Hard Rock Bet marks the first time we’ve brought our platform to an audience outside the US,” said Marlon Goldstein, Executive Managing Director and CEO of Hard Rock Digital.
“We’re excited to introduce Ontario players to a premium entertainment experience that reflects the energy and service synonymous with the Hard Rock brand. And by investing in local talent, local partnerships, and localized customer support, we’re creating an experience designed specifically for Ontario players,” he continued.
Before the Ontario expansion, Hard Rock Bet was available in ten US states, including Michigan, New Jersey, Virginia, and Indiana.
