Responsible gaming is a significant issue for many of our best sports betting sites and state legislators nationwide. FanDuel has joined the fray of operators launching new programs in September, which happens to be Responsible Gaming Education Month (RGEM).

FanDuel's newest program is called Trusted Voices: Conversations About Betting, and it's designed to be a resource about youth gambling.

About the program

Launched in a partnership with former NBA player Randy Livingston and his wife, sports agent Anita Ondine Smith, Trusted Voices is aimed at parents, guardians, and coaches. It's supposed to be a tool for them to educate young people about gambling.

The content was created with EPIC Global Solutions, a global gambling harm prevention company. It provides information about gambling, such as data and tips on the warning signs of problem gambling.

That's something Livingston knows about all too well.

During his playing career, which spanned from 1996 to 2008, he struggled with problem gambling. He brings life experiences, including how he was introduced to gambling, hit rock bottom, and recovered. That recovery came hand-in-hand with his wife's help, so she brings a unique perspective after living through problem gambling from a different angle.

"It is important to normalize conversations about gambling, and this program is intended to help families get comfortable with traditionally uncomfortable conversations," said Smith.

"Randy and I are delighted to work with FanDuel to amplify the program's content and drive positive outcomes for young people and anyone who may be struggling with problem gambling," she continued.

Other RGEM initiatives

FanDuel isn't the first of our best sports betting apps to launch an RGEM initiative.

Hard Rock Bet and BetMGM have launched programs, as has sports betting integrity company IC360.

IC360 has approached it in a similar fashion to the new FanDuel program, providing advice to help ensure loved ones gamble responsibly.

Hard Rock Bet has been encouraging bettors to use tools such as deposit limits, wager limits, session limits, and timeouts.

Lastly, BetMGM is in its second year of advertising responsible gaming in NFL stadiums, kicking off a campaign in numerous locations throughout the United States as the 2024-25 season gets underway.

About RGEM

The American Gaming Association (AGA) created Responsible Gaming Education Week (RGEW) in 1998. It was celebrated until 2022, when the initiative became a month-long campaign.

Now each September marks RGEM across the U.S., which focuses on promoting safe gambling and reducing the risks of problem gambling.
