FanDuel Sportsbook — an Official Sports Betting Partner of the National Football League and one of our best sports betting apps — is attempting to get out ahead of the rash of Super Bowl betting opportunities by announcing the return of their FanDuel Kick of Destiny promotion.

Kick of Destiny involves four-time Super Bowl winner and NFL legend-turned-TV analyst Rob Gronkowski and his attempt to kick a field goal at Super Bowl LVIII. Last year, those who participated competed for a chance to win a free bet. Those bettors who wagered $10 for the legendary NFL Tight End to hit a 25-yard field goal would win a free bet with North America’s top sportsbook.

Gronk missed the attempt, but FanDuel rewarded all those who participated in the promotion with a free bet anyway. Some changes have been made for this year's contest, with FanDuel and Gronkowski vowing to provide a better experience.

Gronk said that: "I can't lie, when I missed the Kick of Destiny during last year's Super Bowl, it was devastating. I told the team at FanDuel I knew I could do better and needed a shot at redemption this year."

The contest

The 2024 FanDuel Kick of Destiny 2 will give customers of the U.S. betting behemoth a chance to place a bet on whether or not Rob Gronkowski will "Make" or "Miss" his field goal attempt that will take place just before the kickoff of this year's Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

A $10 million prize pool is up for grabs — the same amount as last year.

This year, customers can place a free pick on whether or not Gronk succeeds or fails on his field goal attempt through the FanDuel Sportsbook app. Those who guess correctly will split $10,000,000 in bonus bets.

Unlike last year, no monetary wager is needed to qualify for the prize pool.

Legendary WWE talent John Cena and actor Carl Weathers have joined the FanDuel advertising blitz ahead of the event that takes place at the Super Bowl in February.

Seizing on Super Bowl betting

The Super Bowl is the most bet-on annual sporting event on American soil. Last year, a record 50.4 million adults in the United States, or about 20% of the population, spent a whopping $15 billion on U.S. sportsbooks, including at some of our best sports betting sites.

In the past, the Super Bowl had been a boon for networks, advertisers, and the NFL itself. But since the 2018 U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn its blanket ban on sports betting, participating American sportsbooks, including some of our best sportsbooks, have been added to the list of entities that dramatically benefit from the culmination of the NFL season.

That fact has not been lost on FanDuel brass, who are eagerly anticipating the results of this year’s Kick of Destiny campaign. "Last year's Kick of Destiny campaign saw tremendous engagement from our customers as they were captivated with what would happen during our live Super Bowl commercial," said FanDuel Executive Vice President of Marketing, Andrew Sneyd. "With the introduction of the Make or Miss free pick function and Rob's desire for redemption, this year will be even more exciting for FanDuel customers. Rob is an authentic embodiment of the FanDuel fan - passionate, entertaining, and trailblazing - and we're ready to make history...again."
