Counting Down the Top 50 NBA Free Agents 40-31: Is Andre Drummond Undervalued on the Open Market?

As the NBA Draft has concluded, and the Orlando Magic selected Paolo Banchero with the first overall pick, all eyes are now focused on the NBA Free Agency period which begins on June 30th. Several high-profile names may be available, including Kyrie Irving, Bradley Beal, and James Harden.

With several NBA teams preparing to open their checkbooks and manipulate the salary cap, we've compiled a list of the top 50 NBA free agents for this summer.

40. Taurean Prince, F, Minnesota Timberwolves (12.4 Player Efficiency Rating)

With Prince's defensive versatility, he would be a welcome addition to many NBA rosters. Although Prince's point per game average was the lowest of his career since his rookie season, his effective field goal percentage was the highest of his career at .564.

39. Lonnie Walker, G, San Antonio Spurs (12.3 PER, Restricted Free Agent)

Despite Walker's status as a former first-round pick by the Spurs in 2018, he has not developed into the offensive threat that I believe the Spurs anticipated from Walker. In fact, Walker's three-point field goal percentage has declined each of the last three seasons. There will be interest in Walker, who is 23 years old, and what he could become.

38. Thaddeus Young, F, Toronto Raptors (17.0 PER)

As he ages, his role is diminishing; however, he is still a very efficient scorer and someone who can provide spurts of offensive production off the bench. Young had an effective field goal percentage of .550 during last year's campaign.

37. Dennis Schroder, G, Houston Rockets (11.5 PER)

Schroder definitely wishes he could change his mind about declining the $84 million contract the Los Angeles Lakers offered him two seasons ago. Schroder may settle for another prove-it type of contract as his performance with the Rockets last season was mediocre at best.

36. Nicolas Batum, F, Los Angeles Clippers (13.5 PER)

At the age of 33, Batum is more than capable of serving as an excellent role player for a contending team. In 2022, Batum shot 40% from beyond the arc, his second consecutive season with a percentage above 40%.

35. Patty Mills, G, Brooklyn Nets (10.4 PER, Player Option)

The Nets heavily relied on Mills this past season, as he averaged a career-high 29 minutes per game. With so much uncertainty in Brooklyn these days, I would expect Mills to opt out and join a contending team.

34. Cody Martin, F, Charlotte Hornets (12.7 PER)

Martin's playing time increased from 16 to 26 minutes per game with the Hornets last season. Although Martin has only played three seasons in the NBA, he loses some appeal as a free agent as he is already 26 years old.

33. Jalen Smith, F, Indiana Pacers (18.4 PER)

Once he was traded to the Indiana Pacers by the Phoenix Suns, the former Maryland Terrapin shined. Smith averaged 13.4 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game during his 22 games with the Pacers. Smith, still only 22, will be a hot commodity on the open market.

32. Montrezl Harrell, C, Charlotte Hornets (23.2 PER)

While the former NBA sixth man of the year is more than capable of scoring and rebounding off the bench for several NBA teams, his value is hindered by his defense. In the NBA, Harrell is one of the most efficient scorers with a career field goal percentage of .621, which is higher than Nikola Jokic's career average of .579.

31. Andre Drummond, C, Brooklyn Nets (21.0 PER)

Drummond was asked to take on a bigger role following his trade from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Nets in the Harden trade. While with the Nets, he recorded a 23.8 PER, the highest efficiency rating of his career. There is still a lot of basketball left in the tank for the four-time rebounding champion who is still only 28 years old.
