There's a big change coming to the U.S. sports betting landscape, as one of our best sports betting sites is set to commence a strategic exit.

Super Group, the parent company of Betway USA, has announced that it will have the sportsbook exit the American sports betting scene, citing the results of an "extensive internal review." The group had a steep decline from its FY2022 profits, posting losses last year.

"We are not happy with the status quo," CEO Neal Menashe said.

Betway in the US

Betway USA has been active in the United States for the last two years after signing an exclusive partnership with Digital Gaming Corporation Limited.

The writing should have been on the wall after Super Group posted losses in the range of $14 million last year, and the North American arm of Betway was reportedly down $21.7 million in the first quarter of 2024.

Super Group is working with its partners and regulators in the New Jersey sports bettingArizona sports bettingColorado sports bettingIndiana sports bettingIowa sports bettingLouisiana sports bettingOhio sports betting, and Virginia sports betting scenes to end Betway's presence.

The group had been long granted a license in the Massachusetts sports betting market but had already chosen not to renew it.

As Super Group looked to expand Betway throughout North America, it created partnerships with a number of professional sports teams. A little less than two months ago, the sportsbook announced it had signed sponsorship deals with the NBA's Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, LA Clippers, and Golden State Warriors, and with the New York Islanders of the NHL.

What's left?

Super Group isn't pulling out of the United States altogether, as it continues to offer a couple of real money online casinos brands in a pair of key markets.

Jackpot City and Spin will continue to operate in the NJ online casino and PA online casino markets.

"The vast majority of Super Group's revenue is generated in iGaming and, in line with that strategy, we will continue to offer our leading casino product in New Jersey and Pennsylvania," Menashe said.

There was no mention of an exit from the company's Canada sportsbook business. Betway Canada is one of our best sportsbooks in Canada, and its Jackpot City brand holds the no. 1 spot on our best online casino in Ontario list.
