How could I have known? We can only speculate and hope that the eventual result goes our way. Two things that play was based on were these:

1) Bergz competed fairly against Djere in their last match on clay.
2) Djere was playing his first match on clay after Wimbledon while Bergz already had 2 wins on clay prior to this match, one of which included a win against Seyboth Wild, who is a decent clay courter. Djere's switch from grass to clay meant Bergz would have the edge in this match and a massive edge in the 1st set. I'm glad it played out that way.
