5dimes asking for a charitable donation to re-open an account. Is this legit?

About two years ago I had a disagreement with "Tony" and was asked to leave 5dimes. I violated one of their rules by placing a wager on a political prop after the results were public. It was an honest mistake, I admitted to "Tony" that I violated their rules but I stood by my assertion that it was unintentional and I apologized. Since the wager in question was canceled shortly after I placed it, I didn't gain anything from the mistake, so there was no harm done. "Tony" didn't believe me, accused me of stealing money from his pocket, and asked me to leave 5dimes. I did so happily.

Now that "Tony" is no longer with 5d I'm interested in playing there again, as I was pretty satisfied with them overall before the incident in question. I recently asked them if they would consider re-opening my account. I was told that if I make a $100 donation to the local Humane Society and send them proof, management will "reconsider" opening my account.

Has anyone else heard of something like this? The Humane Society is a great organization, and I have no problem donating, but this feels like flat-out bribery. Bribery for a good cause, but bribery nonetheless. And my donation will get me "reconsideration," nothing more.

After 20 years of online gaming, I thought I had heard it all. But this is a new one. Happy Friday, everyone.

Ask them instead of donating $100 you can do an afternoon or two of volunteer work there. You will enjoy it far more especially if you're a fan of animals like myself.

this is really a weird one... did they tell you that over the phone or on chat?

with 5dimes card history, i expected this thread to say something like "they asked for my card to make a donation" and then you ended up seeing airline tickets and food purchases all over the place

    This was over chat.

I've got no real issue with the donation, and it's kind of neat to see a sportsbook looking out for abused animals, but I just get the weird feeling I'm being jerked around since I was told my donation would only get me "consideration." What will they ask for next?

Make them a counter offer that doesn't require any verification on their part. Tell them they can take the first $100 of your next deposit towards the Tony Memorial Fund (or any charity of their choice) if they allow you to return. Small price to pay to get back with 5D and it's a goodwill gesture on your part that there are no ill feelings.

why should he have to give anything? he's the customer, they should take him back with open arms, never should've had to leave in the first place on a mistake

My offer was kind of tongue in cheek. I doubt 5D will reinstate anyone after cutting them loose. 5D is yanking this guy's chain with this "reconsider" offer.

5dimes a fine recreational book but just AC88 alone blows them away.....between them and Fairlay you have everything you need with much better odds and near instant payouts 24/7...How can any "serious" bettor give up so much juice?

Are you kidding me? 5Dimes is nothing but slightly above average. If you’re anything above a rec bettor and play anywhere other than Bookmaker or Heritage, then this type of crap is going to happen. Those two books handle things professionally at all times. There’s never any “Tony” drama, slow pay nonsense, etc.

Keeping an account at 5Dimes is fine, but serious money belongs in Bookmaker or Heritage, or Nitrogen if you’re also a bitcoin enthusiast.

I also use Bookmaker and Heritage, in addition to 5D. It seems I use 5D more than any other Book, thus my favorite. To each their own I guess. Another good out to have in your arsenal is Low Vig (reduced juice like 5D but higher limits).

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I don't think I'm going to take them up on their offer. It's hard to trust an organization that would require something like this just to consider re-activating my account. What new requirement will they come up with the first time I request a payout?

The main reason I'd like to play there again is I play mostly game props and player props, and I remember 5D as having a pretty good selection. Other than heritage and betonline, does anyone have recommendations for top-rated books with a wide range of player props? Bookmaker doesn't seem to have much, just curious if there's a book out there I'm missing. Thanks again.

Bookmaker and Heritage are limited in the props department which is where I like to play. BetOnline has a decent selection of props, but 5Dimes usually beats them in juice.

If you care about price then you have an account at all the above mentioned books. If I were forced to eliminate one it would be bookmaker. Hard to find value on their pre-match betting otherwise a great sportsbook in every other aspect.

I have been with 5dimes for so many years. I think they are a wonderful book.

It's $100 bucks, I would do the charitable donation and send them proof.

If they allow you to wager with them I would not think there would be any problem getting a payout.

They would not make you jump through hoops or play any games after they accept you.

Best book, I only wish their poker was better.

I had to do the same thing in late 2016 when talking to “Tony”. Except I had to make a contribution of $500. I asked SBR if that could count towards pro membership here but they declined.

It’s legit tho. I showed them proof I did it and they reinstated me.

Nevertheless I was eventually banned from there again for “taking shots”. I will never play there again. Most of my bets are live betting and bovada is the best. Also less jumping thru hoops to cash out.
