    Shared Environment ?
In another thread about Canbet there was a discussion about shared environment. Someone asked the person who was claiming 'foul' this: "Shared environments. Have you played from a Net cafe, University, University dorm, apartment building etc?"

I know nothing about this. Today I had an offer in Matchbook and was away from home. I stopped in a library before game time and found my offer was not taken. So I made a bet away from home. Did i break a rule? What is this shared environment thing all about? I guess I could read the fine print or ask MB directly , but I hope I can learn about this from all the astute and experienced players here. Thanks.

I think you're fine with MB.

Canbet has gone down hill lately. We have 3 complaints of them outright stealing player funds with no proof, citing "shared environments". Players deny using Net Cafe's universities, or anything but their own home-based unshared IP.

Another unconfirmed rumor I heard was Canbet confiscated all Portuguese accounts. I wish I could find out more about this... just a sample size of 3.

in general though don't place bets from a shared connection (like a library connection). first, you have no way of knowing the computer is clean (virus, keylogger, whatever), second if someone else logs in from the same ip many books will give you a hard time getting your funds. a book like matchbook probably won't give you any trouble, but why bother in the first place when you've got a secure home connection.

Thanks, this was pretty much a one time thing and i really didn't expect a problem. But all the bad stuff I read here makes me wonder. Nothing surprises me anymore and I am starting to wonder if it's worth it to continue to play --- (he says while heading toward 7 full weeks of waiting for a check from wsex). And thanks, noyb, for the caution about virus, etc.
