Anyone know if checks are drawn on foreign or US banks. I hope to be receiving one shortly and am just trying to determine if I'll have to wait a week or so for it to clear.

Any way to avoid this if indeed it's from a foreign bank?

Lately they have been from a Canadian bank, drawn in US dollars. But they use a few different places so I could be from anywhere. Sometimes even though they are foreign, look for an HSBC or BOA symbol, then you can go directly to those banks. My bank never holds them anyways, but all banks are different. Shouldnt be more than a 2 day hold.
