When you replace Fernando Torres with Andy Carroll, Xabi Alonso with Jordan Henderson, Dirk Kuyt with Stewart Downing, Gerrard and Carragher are older... You know you're gonna go down. Benitez was such an underrated manager too, his teams catually defended which always sort of gave them a chance in games. He never came close to winning the BPL bar 08/09 but how far could he go with 2 players basically carrying the team? He masterminded one of the worst teams on paper to ever win the CL, a squad that is actually almost comparable to the current one which is languishing in mid-table. Good job Scouser board

Not a good day for the central defenders.Agger sent off with Lfc already behind, then some sloppy defending from Skrtel giving WBA their second penalty.
The upcoming home games against Man City,Arsenal and Man U will be testing
ones but even with some bad results it is of cause much to soon to judge Rodgers.

Is this really that shocking? Liverpool's road record in last few seasons isn't that of such to be shocked when they lose.

Good points raised by Seto.
What is the answer? We need a top manager but we keep getting mid table battlers that deliver on domestic cups. Can´t blame the current owners, they do put in money. Everton do better on F all money.

from a gamblers perspective we might get really good odds fading arsenal and liverpool. The public loves betting on them, but neither team is very good this year.

Giroud missed an absolute sitter. Arsenal can create really great chances, but Persie ain't there to put them in. Podolski and Giroud, oh boy.

Whoever is making the signings for you guys sucks. To answer an above question yeah Torres didn't have a great past couple of years but last year still had double digit goals AND assists which a lot of strikers can only dream of (12 & 17 or something like that). And his LFC record was disgustingly good, especially at Anfield.
The thing is, after LFC won that CL in 04/05 out of nowhere, their squad got better year after year. They signed Reina in 05/06, then Masch in 06/07, then Torres in 07/08, and a few others. And they peaked in 08/09 with that great season and were SCORING GOALS.
Then instead of pushing on they started losing players and failed to replace them and fell back into mediocrity. Stevie G's getting older too, and he doesn't have players that can make him keep his goals up the way Frank has at Chelsea for example. They have no scoring from midfield. Suarez is a good player, but as was coorectly stated yesterday on MOTD hasn't yet in his LFC career been an out and out goalscorer. Who is going to score for this team? Carroll? Downing? There is a problem there. And when the defense shits the bed like yesterday, it gets real ugly.
They've made one key mistake which is signing overrated English players. Herderson, Carroll and Downing were all in the £20M-£30M mark I believe, and that's ridiculous for such unproven players. Kinda reminds me of SWP at Chelsea. What a waste of money. Michael Carrick also had a couple of good seasons for UTD but his price tag was too high as well. English homegrown talent is great, buying English players from other clubs who have just had a career year for big money, especially the Wigans and Sunderlands of this world, usually results in getting ripped off.

Chris I didn't know you were a scouser! That's nice.
This game was slightly mis-leading. I've been a big Pool fan for quite some time. I think people are slightly over-reacting to this defeat. Liverpool had 4-6 good chances, and Luis should have scored twice on the conservative side of the argument. He missed a total sitter w/ the mis-timed jump on the header. And he booted wide an open netter.
Overall, I don't find much joy in the Borini signing. I do like the Oussama signing though. Cheap player and can replace Downing hopefully. Downing is the biggest joke in the team right now. He makes my head spin. Needs to be sold asap. Carroll never gets regular playing time since his form appeared to be coming back w/ his displays v. Chelsea in FA Cup, etc. Joe Allen is a good player for BR system as well.
The bottom line is...the red card changed the whole game in this one. Besides, any debate right now is a waste of time, as 3 of the next 4 are against top flight opponents....we'll know all there is to know about our scousers in 2 weeks time.
