Cristiano's body language after the final whistle in extra time said a lot. His face mimicks like he didn't want this thing to go to penalties and then right before the shoutout when both teams were standing in the circles gearing up each others, he sat on the grass inside the cricle with his head down, no eye contact with anybody, where everyone was standing trying to get the best of each other. IMO, he was scared of taking that penalty first.

If you're not sure he's from there you shouldn't make statements declaring such. And we don't know whose idea it was to go 5th. Ultimately it's the coach's decision, he's responsible. If he deferred to the player he should be fired on the spot. Best player goes first, period. Anything else is over thinking.

Everyone loves to hate on Ronaldo, but if you read the stories - Bento lined it up for Ronaldo to take the 5th kick. This is not a player's decision, it is a manager's decision. The problem with the whole PK parade was Bento's strategy or whatever it was he was trying to do. He did not seem to know what he wanted to do. They had Alves set to go and then they pulled him for Nani. Alves looked nervous enough to me when he stepped up the 1st time. Then he gets pulled and you ask him to come right back and make one next time that has to be made? Alves looked totally thrown off from a nerves standpoint after getting pulled back. That was the big mistake to me.

I think once they took Alves out of the lineup, they should have kept him moving down the train and let him gather himself a little better. Bad luck for him in the end because he hit a decent shot, but was a little amped and hit it high into the crossbar.

Bento is as stubborn as they come. I've actually talked to the men more than once (I went to the open practices at Sporting training facilities) and just by being around him you can see what type of coach he is. theres different schools of thought of who should kick when. if you save him for 5th, you know itll be a huge pressure spot if hes up. if you save him for 3rd, its a guarantee he has to kick. if he goes first, you have a good chance at making the first one. overblown story IMO.
