source: skysportsAjax have apologised to AZ Alkmaar after their goalkeeper Esteban was attacked by a fan during a match on Wednesday night.
Esteban, 22, kicked the fan to the ground and was then shown a red card by referee Bas Nijhuis.
AZ coach Gertjan Verbeek then ordered his players off the pitch and refused to come back out, so the match was abandoned.
Ajax director Jeroen Slop said: "This was a terrible incident and we deeply regret it and offer our sincere apologies.
"The supporter has been handed over to the police. It was a 19-year-old man who was probably under the influence of alcohol. He said he hated the AZ goalkeeper and had therefore attacked him.
"Ajax offered to put additional stewards around the pitch to ensure their safety and play the game but AZ stuck to their decision."
A Dutch FA statement: "The case has been submitted to the prosecutor of football. He will see if there is guilt and report his findings.
"There are three options: the game is completed, the game is replayed, or the respective position is regarded as the final score (Ajax were winning 1-0)."Comment -

Other than the three options (resume the game, replay the game, or take the current score as final score), either team can also be handed a loss by the league. AZ because they left the pitch, and Ajax if it is decided that they didn't do enough to guarantee players safety. A big mess. Meanwhile, the league has already decided to ignore the red card given to the goalie. So that one is off the table.
