Burnley - Burnley dihajar 4-1 oleh Tottenham Hotspur di semifinal pertama Piala Carling. Meski tahu peluangnya untuk ke final sulit, The Clarets bertekad mengguncang Turf Moor.
Dua pekan lalu di White Hart Lane, Burnley tak berdaya di hadapan Spurs. Sempat unggul lewat gol Martin Paterson, empat gol balasan dari Michael Dawson, Jamie O'Hara, Roman Pavlyuchenko dan bunuh diri Michael Duff bersarang di gawang mereka.
Dalam kondisi demikian, membalikkan keadaan menjadi hal yang teramat sulit dilakukan. Meski leg kedua akan dihelat di kandang sendiri, Stadion Turf Moor, Kamis (22/1/2009) dinihari WIB, tim Championship Division itu bersikap realistis.
"Kami tertinggal tiga gol tetapi penting untuk tidak menyimpan pikiran negatif. Kami ingin pergi ke pertandingan dan membuat Turf Moor berguncang," tutur manajer Burnley Owen Coyle kepada The Sun.
Burnley berkewajiban menang 3-0 atau unggul dengan selisih empat gol atau lebih untuk bisa melaju ke partai final. Meski sulit, Coyle berpegang pada prinsip tertua sepakbola bahwa bola itu bundar.
"Sepakbola bisa berubah dengan sangat cepat. Oke, semuanya akan mendukung kami dan ini adalah sebuah waktu yang menentukan. Itulah mengapa kami mencintai sepakbola," imbuh Coyle.
"Skenario idealnya adalah mencetak gol pertama. Bila itu terjadi, itu akan membuat pertandingan menjadi hidup," tukas manajer asal Skotlandia itu lagi.
Burnley mencapai semifinal bukan tanpa modal besar. Mereka sukses menyingkirkan Arsenal, Chelsea dan Fulham. Di leg pertama pun, seperti sudah dijelaskan, The Clarets sempat memimpin dari Spurs.
"Tottenham akan menghormati kita karena mereka melihat apa yang kami lakukan di 45 menit pertama di White Hart Lane," ujar manajer 42 tahun itu. "Harry (Redknapp) akan memastikan mereka panas dari awal. Dia ingin mencapai final piala lagi."
