Vreston's Soccer Thread 2011-2012

I'm starting my football (soccer) picks for the 2011-12 season.
It's still the beginning in most European leagues but I'm starting to form better opinions.

I'm not the kind of guy who posts tons of plays. I post plays I personally feel strongly about and play. I also don't post units. That's up to the person making the play. I never want to be responsible for someone suffering a big loss if they choose to follow one of my plays.

As always, my odds are from bet365 unless otherwise stated.

I'll start with a game from The Greek Super League:

Panetolikos - Asteras Tripolis
Pick: Panetolikos @ 2.10

Panetolikos is playing at home and lost points in their previous game against Panionios. They are in a good spot today to get their first win in the Greek Super League at home and at good odds.

I saw another game I like in tonight's UEFA Champion's League.

Benfica - Manchester United
Pick: Manchester United @ 2.00

Man U has made a strong start in the Premier League. They have scored 18 goals and have been scored on only 3 times. Rooney and Young seem to play well together as well. Of course they will be playing in Portugal and Benfica will give it all they have in front of their home crowd but I can't turn down Man U @ 2.00 odds.

Man U has made a strong start in the Premier League. They have scored 18 goals and have been scored on only 3 times. Rooney and Young seem to play well together as well. Of course they will be playing in Portugal and Benfica will give it all they have in front of their home crowd but I can't turn down Man U @ 2.00 odds.

Too bad about this one. Like I said before, I couldn't resist taking Man U at those odds. They had the chance to win it, but so did Benfica. Actually I was impressed by the way Benfica fought for the win. It was a good game to watch with good rhythm.

I'm tempted to take a few more, but I decided to just keep this play. Pretty good odds for a strong team. I'll take my chances.

Good one with some nice odds to make it sweet. Locomotiv turned it around from 1-0 to win 1-2.

I'm on an early play today in Champions League.

Zenit St. Petersburg - FC Porto
Pick: Over 2.5 @ 2.05

I see this one going over because Zenit absolutely needs the win at home today. Therefore they should go into this game strong and offensively. It is their strong point after all in my opinion. The same goes for Porto. They also have the players with the quality to put the ball in the net. So I'm going with the over here.

Nice win here at good odds. It was 1-1 at half time and then in the 63rd minute it was 2-1 so the rest of the game was a pleasure to watch! The final goal was scored in the 72nd minute. Also Porto's Fucile was sent off with a red card in the 45th minute.

Sunderland - Arsenal
Pick: Arsenal @ 2.10

Sunderland has been impressive I must admit, but they had a mid week Cup game and they might be affected a bit by fatigue since the match went to overtime. Arsenal had been having trouble finding the net, but against Blackburn they scored 7 and logically they put that in the past. They should be on the upside psychologically.

Even though England can be quite unpredictable at times I'll take Arsenal at this good value.

I have been thinking about whether to post this play or not all morning and I finally decided to go ahead and do it.
I don't post plays left and right and I try to post just plays I feel really good about.

Today in England League 2 there is a game that I set apart from the rest.

Bristol Rovers - Southend
Pick: Southend @ 2.60


Bristol Rovers is 15th in the league (7w-5d,7L at home) while Southend is 4th with a stellar 12 wins - 1 draw - 6 losses on the road with 39-27 goals for-against! I don't think Bristol has much to play for. They are in the middle of the league table and they don't have to worry about relegation while at the same time they don't have a chance for the top places. Southend is currently 4th and could easily move to second place if things go their way. Strangely they lost last week at home and even though they have two starters missing today I think they have a really good chance to come away with the win.
