Complete waste of talent if he goes to Madrid. Graveyard of football is Madrid and Barcelona, he's best staying at Dortmund where he can develop and ensure playing time. Young kid's always think big clubs is the most important thing, but they don't realize the sacrifices they would have to make until they get there. You make a good point, alot of potentially great players end up bench warmers at these clubs and never reach their potential. He is better off going to a big club with where a player of his position is needed, right now he is a key player and central to the Dortmund team. Dortmund have alot of money, great tradition, stadium, support and a history of doing well in the Champions League aswell.
