He gets tripled team, are you blind? Look at what Paraguay is doing to David Villa, the exact same thing teams have been doing to Messi. Pay attention man, 1 on 3 is impossible.

Messi is one of the greatest, but it' easier to shine in a league like La Liga. Still one of the best, though.
Lots of haters after all you loser lost a lot of money betting on him to score all world cup long and he didn't score once. Now you are all broke and hating on this guy.
Not cool.

Not sure why people are so surprised about Messi, as he's notoriously been an underachiever when it comes to international football. Argentina barely qualified for the World Cup, and Maradona was known as a great cheerleader but was weak as a Tactician. I would be surprised if he stays on because his act grew old, and the locals down there won't be happy with him. He'll eventually go on TV and say something stupid, or go back to drugs because he can't help himself.

i have said (edit:write) it countless times in this forum. Argentina strategy is never centered around Messi. In Barcelona, Iniesta, Xavi, Henry, Alves etc are star players, but they create play that ends with Messi has space in opponent defense. And that is when Messi is the best in business. Even when it looks like Messi create something out of nothing, that is not really true. If you observe other Barcelona players without ball at that time, it actually they try to create space for him by luring defenders to guard them
Looks at Argentina, either one Argentina star player try to create something out of nothing or they just pass it to Messi and watch him to do the rest or waiting for Messi to pass to him.
villa has same tight marking, but it still works. There's no doubt in my mind that Spain strategy make Villa as the target man. Xavi and Iniesta which usually make play for Messi now make it for Villa. Isn't that a nice strategy by Vicente?
Maradona? I like his play as player, but as coach? Arrogant and big mouth without winning anything or having good tactic (unlike Mourinho), jumping around at the bench, screw up great player like Messi? I don't know how I can like him.

Messi is not the best player in the world. He showed it this World Cup. Great players find a way to score. If he plays for a great team like he does with Barcelona then everyone says he's the best player in the world. But if you put him on a so-so team like Argentina then he looks bad. Barcelona would beat Argentina with ease.

Argentina's strategy was pretty dumb in the Germany game. After seeing Germany's sharp counters against England, for sure I thought that Argentina would not play with too many men in front of the ball. But after an hour or so they became impatient and pushed too many players forward.
Germany had started out the game with an incredible amount of energy and dominated the first 15-20 minutes. Usually, a team pays the price for that type of energy distribution late in the game, but Argentina didn't wait for it. They were getting frustrated when their shots didn't find the net. Messi was doing fine. Argentina had plenty of chances and after the 20th minute the equalizer was always in the air. In the last half hour it all fell apart, because they pushed too many players forward. Exactly what Germany had been waiting for. Bad strategy. Of course, it didn't make it easier for Argentina that the German defense clogged up the center, and Argentina didn't respond by attacking more over the wings. Mostly, this loss was a matter of Maradona being outcoached.
The German strategy was clear: 1) overpower early and try to get an early lead; 2) clog up the middle of defense, and close down the spaces fast; 3) wait for easy counter opportunities. Argentina should have been as methodical, but Maradona relied solely on the genius of Messi and creativity of his players. We've seen the same, at a lower level, with England. England has no clear team concept and relies on some players they consider great to get them through. But you need a clear team concept first, as the foundation. On top of that the players with extra quality can flourish. Without it, those same players drown.
Messi is an incredible player. But soccer is not a one-man sport. Soccer starts with strategy. That's why Germany won. Normally, Argentina does play a smarter game, so this elimination shows that Maradona has much to learn as coach.
Remember that Germany has now run into not one, but two poorly coached teams. They are now overrated. It is highly doubtful that Spain will be as gullible as England and Argentina.

yep, only had 50 shots. was doubled and still was creating for his squad.
contrast that with Villa's goal from 50 yards out and his latest one as he merely put in a rebound. there is a bit of luck involved in some of this.

no,it's an exposure of Messi. The medias made him the best player in the world,
but the reality is he can't score in a WC competion ! He had many chances, including 1 to 1 against the goalkeeper.
He can't score,he can't lead his team in tough situations, when the team is losing.
After the Champions League final Barcelona-Man Utd (2-0) Rooney then said that Xavi is the best footballer
in the world.
in Barca midfield Messi plays with super players and when he plays for other team,
we can see his real qualities.

Messi was fine in the group stage. Could have scored 3-4 goals easily, just bad luck.
I don't know what happened in the last games. He did look bad. I'll let the people who know more analyze that.
