zzzzzz yeah i understand both teams dont mind the draw but it pretty nuch sums up why soccer will never be big in the states. NFL wants points , baseball wanted runs and got them before the steroid era was busted, Theres a reason our sports dont end in a draw boxing you see draws but rare in big match, ufc almost never. I've watched every match this WC some nice games some teams going after it but then theres paraguay yesterday (yeah i know looking for draw ) Now this zzz fest anything that ends in a draw on avg 33% of the time will never be big in the states.

Not watching, nor am I a soccer apologist but doesn't it make sense that the 2 best teams can control the pace of the game because they are the best? I only watch soccer every four years but can appreciate the elite level of play.

This is not good

These are two of the best defences in the world cup, Brazil probably has the no. 1 defence, there's a reason no one scored. Soccer is one of the few sports around where playing not to lose gives you a good chance not to lose.

throw 10 men behind the ball and even brasil will struggle to score

Good points and you cannot do shootouts either to determine winner

Yup, this is why it wont catch on here. It is only the most popular sport because of tradition and the fact that it takes almost no money to get a match started. It certainly isn't the most popular due to skill and entertainment.

                                    both teams played for draw

Portugal should have played for the WIN, so they didn't have to play Spain next round

A couple baseball games on Wednesday ending 1-0. I rather watch soccer for 90 minutes and see a 0-0 draw then watch 9 innings of baseball where the game takes 3 + hours and there is one run scored.

The reason is simple, Brazil needed a draw to qualify, Portugal could lose and still qualify but would need to rely on goal difference. Brazil have one of the best defenses in the world, Portugal also have a great defensive record. Neither team had to go for it, both teams respect each other as they have world class players. Last time Portugal tried to play open against Brazil they lost 6-2! so they didn't want to get embarrassed again.

Football is a strategic game, they arn't going to go all out just to please a few neutrals. It was a great defensive display from both sides, nobody seems to respect defense.

If you want more exciting and open football, watch Spain vs Chile in an hour.
