So who on the USA "supposedly" commited the foul?

My only answer to this, the ref saw a bunch of wrestling from everyone in the box as the ball was in the air and just said **** it, the plays gone to shit.

I say this because the whistle was blown before the goal was scored.

Ha, yeah he was looking around for a call. When they showed the replay I was expecting him to be tripped from behind, but no one was close.
