Argentina vs Greece - Things to consider
Everyone is backing Argentina because the odds are nice. Argentina would be priced priced as bigger favorites if game was of urgent point importance to them, but it is not, as no matter almost anything, they will end up in 1st place. So, they can sit back and relax a bit here. There is a huge skill difference between these two teams--Argentina can be spectacular and crash Greece here--but they can be a bit de-motivated, find a healthy opposition and struggle winning.

Greece on the other hand needs small miracle to advance--avoiding a loss against Argentina and a Nigeria win against S Korea. It is very difficult. Greece is a team that performs well when there is nothing expected from them. The press slaughtered them after tragic performance and loss vs the koreans, their win against Nigeria, when nobody expected was their big triumph and now they play vs giants. None will blame them for this game, no matter the result and they are always a dangerous team in this role. The quality gap is enormous, for sure, the game-plan is vague and unorthodox, but as much as you can never back them as favorites, you can never underestimate them as underdogs too.

Most of the regular starters for Argentina will be subbed. Those who play will not play all game. Argentina's best player Messi is listed to start, however, if he starts don't expect him to stay on the pitch very long. Argentina have won just one of their last seven meetings with European opponents at the World Cup

Finally, I am worried there might be some fix going here. World Cup has one of the highest betting limits. THIS PARAGRAPH IS A FAR STRETCH BUT IT IS SOMETHING THAT I WOULD CONSIDER. Maradona is not the best of characters. He has had lot problems since he retired from playing soccer--drug addiction, gambling, alcohol problems, financial troubles etc. It is also widely believed that Maradona took this job for the money. Considering all this it wouldn't be surprising if he decides to throw this game away and get all his associates/family etc to bet on Greece. Odds on Greece range anywhere from +700 to +900 for a nice pay out.

Those are just things to consider. I however believe that Argentina will win this game but no bet for me as the odds have no value given the circumstance around this game.

      Good write up Thomas.

Tevez and Higuain are rested but personally I think Argentina will be taking this game as seriously as anything else. As long as Greece don't win and Korea go through I'm happy.

Ridiculous comment considering Maradona is not accepting any payment unless Argentina wins the entire world cup. I live in Argentina, and there is absolutely no chance in hell that Maradona could talk those players into throwing a match for him. COMPLETELY ABSURD COMMENT!

Try telling Messi to not score any goals for you. Or tell the defense to let one slide. You kidding me? In a World Cup? What a joke! They wouldn't do it in the first place, ESPECIALLY not for Maradona.

I wouldn't call this paragraph a far stretch. I would call it insulting, absurd, impossible, and total crap.

Yeah, I'm going to lay the big spread. Even though Argentina doesn't have a lot to play for, I still don't see them losing this game.

It is just a theory. You never know...

And he doesn't have to convince his players...just the goalie and sit all the starters for the bench players.
