From the countless replays here, the whistle was clearly blown before the shot was even taken so why should it have been a goal? I agree the ref made a bad call on something, but I don't see how the goal should have counted based on when he blew the whistle.

Why stereotype Americans? There are 300 million more Americans than Slovenians. Many that love and have played "football" since they were little. There are also collegiate and professional leagues that have very talented athletes and many fans.
