How do you go about making a pick on a game?

my method i look at odds

home & away records

injury reports, team news, check team sites soccer news sites, espndeportes espnsoccernet, mediotiempo, goal.com soccerway.com

then i look up prediction sites to compare with my own predictions soccervista.com etc

finally make my pick

All kidding aside, I basically do what you do, although I've sometimes been known to go with simple gut feelings as well.
