When I saw the title of this thread I immediately thought of Roberto Carlos, the guy was one of my favourite players for many, many years. Even if he didn't score from his freekicks they were always great to watch because he just used to blast the ball like nobody else on the planet could!

As for Batistuta, he didn't come into my mind specifically for this thread but, in general, I rate him as one of the top 3 strikers of the modern era, along with Alan Shearer. Both these players could score all types of goals and did so for many seasons in one of the top 3 leagues in the world. Can't think of any other strikers that had the same all round ability, goalscoring ability and consistency at the highest level. But I suppose that's for another thread!

I would add Steven Gerrard as another player who can blast a long shot into the back of the net with a pretty decent level of force.

I have two Brazilians and two Dutchies: Roberto Carlos, Ronald Koeman, Branco, and Arie Haan.

It's rarer these days to see somebody blast it from 30-35 yards in the upper corner. Nowadays you see more and more shots that bounce just before they reach the goalie. Very tricky.

Koeman, Carlos, Trezequet.....I think all have been measured in the 80mph range.

Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't necessarily have the hardest shot, but it apparently travels the farthest distance at top speed....because he doesn't spin the ball much (scientifically proven apparently). Anyhow, at the Theatre of Dreams, there's a section where you can have the speed of your shot measured. Both Ronaldo and Rooney were in the low-mid 70s. I managed to beat out Anderson - he got 0, he was way off target and couldn't register on the radar!
