The FIGC (Italian FA) are looking into allegations of match fixing following the 1-1 draw between Chievo and Catania on Sunday.

La Repubblica reports chiefs at FIGC headquarters are making enquiries after bets of €2.2 million were taken for the game ending in a draw. A further €241,308 was bet on the 1-1 result.

British tabloid The Sun claims bookmakers in England had suspended betting on the fixture last Thursday after suspicions were raised over the amount of wagers for the result.

Italian bookmakers had also slashed odds of a draw just days before the game.

David Williams of Ladbrokes told The Sun: "We saw a lot of money for the draw and decided to pull the plug."

Betfair also said the result was a "heavily backed draw".

Chievo scored after 13 minutes before the Sicilians equalised via a penalty late in the second half. Both teams have hopes of avoiding relegation this season, currently sitting at fairly safe distance from the bottom three.
