Im a man utd fan, but would have to say messi is a much better player. Rooney is great, but torries over a liverpool has much better quality. Messi can win games by himself, whereas rooney requires great service to put the ball in the back of the net most times.

Don't really think he is the type of player who will let success get to his head, but I understand what you mean.
The look on the faces of Henry and Kluivert yesterday said it all. After he won the penalty, both had huge grins on their faces, knowing that they were watching a legend in the making.

Rooney for me, epl is better then the spain league, harder competition for rooney overall. Rooney also doesnt have the team messi has also rooney does EVERYTHING, to me his a complete player if you watch united games you can see him many times defend very deep in there team side and run back all the way upfront something that barely if not no one does especially when they are the lone striker.

he plays in the comfort of his own country, he needs service to deliver, untill recently he used to be mediocre in big matches, he is good but he is no match for the other guy.

Err, what? Messi is a more complete player than Rooney. Rooney has been getting great service from Nani and Valencia. On the other hand, most of Messi's goals have been created by him. Look at the hat-tricks against Valencia and Zaragoza as examples. Does everything on his own, the little genius.
And I haven't seen Rooney track back and defend this season. He did it last season and we know how many goals he got.
As for the English league being better than the La Liga, I think it's a load of shite. Barcelona are easily the best team in the world right now and Messi showed against United in the CL finals and against Chelsea in the semi-final (despite being marked by 3 players, he got the assist for Iniesta's goal) that he is more than capable of taking on English teams.

lol at people who think rooney will take the ballon. He is number 8 this year, yes he will climb up but the highest spot he will get is number 3. Messi is playing better as good or even better than last year so he is untouchable .

Compare their stats over the past few years and then come back to me.

I agree with you mate on most of what you say, but Rooney has tracked back on several occasions this season, as I've been to most of the matches. I agree though, Messi is the more complete player, the best player in the world by far, but from what I've said before he's playing in a position which allows him to create his own chances or create for others whereas Rooney for the most part relies on the service from guys like Valencia, Fletch or Park (Nani too when he decides to play!). Messi plays in a position where he's almost always involved and doesn't disappear from games, whereas Rooney as a lone striker may disappear at times (if he doesn't get the service, thus needs to track back and become more involved). Nevertheless Rooney has been brilliant for us this season and has improved his overall game drastically.
As for La Liga being a better league...tough to compare considering the differing style of play for the most part. Yes, the football is definitely more aesthetically pleasing to the neutral, but in terms of competitiveness there will always be disagreement. You can't argue though that they do have the best team in the world with Barca, but overall competitiveness would be debatable top to bottom.
Cheers

I subscribe to Kaka. It's a delight to watch that guy when he's in form.He and Messi are the best players in the world right now. They are also nice guys, modest, smart and very grounded.Rooney still needs to age a little,to be more mature and he'll be a great player too.Cristiano Ronaldo likes life too much, that's why i don't see him playing at this level 4 or 5 years from now.

If you haven't seen Rooney track back and defend this season then i think you are watching a different league with another "Rooney" in it maybe.
Maybe i prefer EPL over PD and i watch Rooney more then Messi overall but i still prefer Rooney even if Messi is considered better also you can't compare the team around Messi against what Rooney has to deal with.
Last note EPL > PD by a mile, if Tottenham, City, Villa, Everton even Fulham were in PD, they will be 3rd 4th 5th, 6th. PD league is Barca and RM, sometimes Valencia and Sevilla do something but the league is not fun to watch beside that compared to EPL, the only reason PD has as many slots in the CL as EPL to me is so that it's "fair". EPL deserves at least 1-2 more slots in the CL.
And last Chelsea should of passed on that year not Barca.

epl is 10 times better than primera, i agree, and i think pd is overrated. the fact is that epl has more money now...
and u cant say that man utd has a weak team, comparing to barcelona, man utd has a strong team comparing to whoever you want...
messi is just brilliant, he has that "latino blood" if you guys know what im talking about....rooney works hard, he helps the defense a lot (altough he shouldn't sometimes, i remember he once made a wrong pass to vad der saar from which resulted a goal against his team, but that's not essential i guess).
still, messi is more talented, rooney works more...i think we all agree with this.
and the way we see this lovely sport determines the one we prefer.
