David Villa is the first player for the new club. I like this trend. We send our best overseas to make a 2nd tier team and they send their senior cits back to us. We can measure the success of the league based on the age gap of the Michael Bradleys we send over against the old dudes they send back.

Yeah...How does having Tierry Henry, Cahill, and others for the New York Red Bulls work out for them? They suck right now Bill. MLS is the boneyard for broken bums looking for checks

The best example is Defoe, this guys has amazing skills but he became a little bit too slow to play in premier league. He's great in the MLS and he's nice to watch.
The new one will be Frank Lampard. This guys will be one of best MLS players with his free kick skill. I just hope he will be able to play as an attacking midfielder.

David Villa is not an old guy. Guy is still great player, made the WC squad for Spain, likely starter as well. MLS fans should be happy he came to States.

Good player that just played in the Champions League Final and is going to the World Cup.

But, sure he's washed up with no knees and is looking for a check. Lots of idiots up in here.

indeed he is washed up with no knees. He hasn't been the same player since he broke his leg a couple years ago. Barca let him go for next to nothing last season as they knew he was done. And now this season Atletico has no interest in keeping him as they also realize he is done. They will likely be selling Diego Costa and need another forward yet they don't want to keep Villa which should tell you something. Also no other major european teams were interested in him hence the reason his coming to the US. Guy might have success in the MLS due to how soft the competition is it doesn't change the fact that he is washed up.

Rumor in England is that Frank Lampard is also toying with the idea of playing with New York....the scoring combo of Villa and Lampard could be a very good striking team in the short term if they stay healthy....but we shall see

If Lampard comes to NY, it will be the best duo in MLS, no doubt about that.

Gotta start somewhere for the MLS but if you look at the rosters now compared to even 5 years ago it's night and day

I can actually watch some MLS games now, recognize some players and enjoy the game

It's actually blowing up in popularity but they don't need to be the best league in the world.....just respectable and they're getting there

He is going to have a hard time adjusting playing from Spain to NYC and then to Melbourne.

it's Melbourne first, then NYC. And yee, he's already got a fuucked up knee, and now he's gonna have big lumps in the A-League,likes of Boogard, Kisnorbo, Sainsbury, Montgomery, etc... booting him around the pitch
