If it's obvious, no need to state it.
OP wasn't cocky or annoying or behaving unmannered in any way. So there's absolutely no need to kick him for losing a bet.
If you feel the need to argue why it may not have been a good bet, fine, bring reasons to the table (not that that wouldn't be necessary when the game is already lost).
But it's not too much to ask to stay classy.
