2 3 clubs, 4 8 hearts.

The purpose of the limp in was I was looking for the wheel straight, not the double suited flushes.

In o8, eight times out of ten if you make the wheel you're going to scoop a major pot.

Looking for the wheel, I hit a straight flush.
Are you kidding me?

I can't even calculate the odds against hitting quad Kings, Aces full, and a straight flush in three consecutive nights.

I play cash to target fish and to flop sets. I'm more or less too tight to ever be elite at tournies. Not a great bluffer.

I gave up cash games years ago.
Too many splasher Cowboys.

Tournament play is a totally different animal with a finish line.
Different strategies are involved.

Not recommended against these guys imo, they're rolled uber deep and they'll fukkin bury you, start calling you down with ace high and shit - but only when they're right.

Going back to the hand I brought up, I think the move there was to smooth call since I was in early position pretending to be on the draw and hoping for a reraise but that's a tough call. That flush hits, people bet and you just threw away $40. That being said if someone (possibly the initial raiser) comes over the top of the raiser THEN you're getting value, so big implied odds there.

That being said I think it goes back to taking good notes on opponents (I read a good Doug Polk article on that today).

For instance this session I had a similar spot where I had AK, the board came A high double suited and my hyper aggro opponent made a big bet in response to my check leading to a nice $100 pot.

So it's a double edged sword then. Based on what you know about your opponent(s), what are the implied odds of checking /possibly losing the pot to the draw vs profit from betting it out and taking it down right then and there?

Answer - know as much about your opponents as possible and go from there, imo.

And then eat some eggs/hot ass, imo.
