While this Fund was never negative more than a unit last year it has shown to be a little volatile unit wise and is on the same pace with the closing comparison, almost exactly, as last year. The difference is that it's approaching these levels from a negative point early in the season whereas last year the average spiked early and reached these levels from a higher point.
Here's the closing line comparison since tracking the Totals Fund at SBR, things seem steady and maintaining at least a half point average over the closer in a crude comparison is where we want to be with this Fund...
Unit wise this has been a volatile Fund and last year there were two 5 point drops and even one of near 7.5 units, and has dropped 8 units since the high of last year...
So after the early slow start against the closing line, let's see what kind of recovery the Totals Fund is in for this year. I don't mind starting the season down, let's get some of those losers out of the way so we can begin to reach expectations. I'm not doubling up here for tracking purposes, but as you can see a case could be made.
Readers can make a decision there, but I would take a look at all the Funds first, then let's discuss the situation.

Here's the Fund's running average against the close and the current level of .312 is basically the same as the lowest point last year of .310...
Ideally we should see a steady rise in that comparison and of course we'd like to see it get to half a point, but it can be tough as this Fund, like the Totals Fund, has that contrarian tint and often waits in the market place before striking.
Given that process though, it's impressive to maintain a positive average in this day and age.

I focused on the closing comparison charts last week and this week not only was the Fund positive units, but it beat the closing line in all six games. The concern was that the Fund was gaining units but failing against the closer. Granted this is just a short term analysis and when we're talking about the closing line (and units) anything can happen over the short term but it's good to see a potential bounce in that comparison.
Here's the UPSET Basket running average against the close since tracking at SBR.
You can see it test a previous level and you can see that both declines leading to those levels involve about 40 plays, even if the first decline had less overall instances...

While we might be approaching last year's highs it's quite a run we've had here unit wise and we know how these functions can give and take.
There's more to it as well. Sometimes both charts run, sometimes they counter. We can overlay the charts, or, as we get more data, we can experiment with what is essentially a moving average convergence/divergence metric.
We can lay a MACD over it and I can tell you this, my research indicates that it could end up being a good year for the UPSET Basket, but we're not just due to give up a few units. These kind of reversals, at the end of that kind of run, can lead to an abrupt unit shift before heading past the recent high. Also, I feel like we've been here before, in some post.
So the prediction, probability wise, would be to imagine the unit chart going sideways to down a bit before we see another run bursting through where we are now.
That said, App St hit at +130 last night and Syracuse may lose tonight. It looks like a test of the level and a sideways move.
